Kim's representatives end Orser's coaching relationship threads merged

I believe a sense of betrayal fogged up reasonable sense of clarity that was necessary to understand and move on. But the ultimate question reamains:

As the proverbial tree falls in the forest, is there a working relationship between the student and the coach when mistrust befalls them ? It would be interesting to find out(not knowledgeable enough to dig into history and come up with an example) if in the recent skating past, student-coach worked thru mistrust developed between them.

I think the one who should feel betrayed here is Brian.
How many times has the Kim camp said "Yuna will be coached by Brian until she retires from competitive skating."

Silly, naive Brian for believing them. All he did was help Yuna make the dream she had since she was little girl become a reality. On the way he took the whole country of S. Korea along for a ride they will never forget. They made him an honorary citizen of Seoul. Then a lack of trust suddenly materialized.

If only that pesky Mao had not entered Camelot and ruined this fairytale. :disagree:

Unless of course they felt Brian brought it about/ deserved getting let go/ situation required it. We'll never know I suppose.

You know, I think Yuna cried a lot about how moving Brian and David's support was after Vancouver even in June/ July. What in the WORLD was going on?

Was Yuna playing the media in order to keep milking money? Somehow I just don't see Yuna doing that since she's always been a really straightforward personality and blunt.

Makes me think there was as both say some UNCOMFORT, but it wasn't any hard feelings. I'm beginning to wonder if what a previous poster said was true. She wasn't going to take competitions seriously so she was considering retiring (but ala Michelle Kwan sort of retiring) in order to keep interest. And Brian misunderstood it, ATS handled everything with inexperience and blundered things.

Aka the worlds comment being sort of something said to appease the media. Etc. So Brian wasn't consulted. Only programs being made for shows. YK skipping GP to do shows. Hm... shows. Shows. :sheesh::cool:

Hmmm. Who said anything about negotiations though? Maybe Brian didn't think it was really a question if he would be Yuna's coach, should she keep competing. He just assumed that was the case. I think he was just gently trying to ask Yuna what her plans were and gently tell her that he really wanted to at least talk about it, and it came across badly.

I think communication between the two become sporadic, but it strikes me that Brian probably thought Yuna had been out of touch because she couldn't make up her mind about next year and didn't feel like dealing with it. I doesn't strike that me that he thought at that point that Yuna was in anyway unhappy with him as a coach or that he was in danger of losing his job.

Not sure the analogy here quite works. It's more like, I have a contract to build a house. But then owner starts being wishy-washy about whether he actually wants the house. And I get another offer but I can only choose one. So I got up to owner one and say, look I really want to build your house, do you still want it? Because I do have this other offer....Only in Brian's e-mail I don't think he intended to pressure Yuna but I think she might have seen it that way. And some misunderstandings are just too sticky to overcome, sometimes.

As far as I remember...The email was never seen or replied by Yuna...Orser used no reply the email by Yuna as an example that he got no respect.
You can tell...the relation between them...was deeply damaged already by the time email was sent.

Well, I disagree with saying that to your boss. It comes off as trying to impress upon your boss that you're valuable. Like a mind game. And the answer from your boss might just be... "fine go to your other company. I don't like that you're pressuring me."

THAT SAID. I don't think this word was ever an issue as Brian didn't need to PROVE himself to Yuna. So it's a bit different from a hiring/ company situation.

Well, I guess that depends on what your relationship with your boss is. With my boss, I would be perfectly comfortable telling her that I'm flattered that I got another offer. But while I'm flattered, I like working here way better. And I don't think she would take it as I'm trying to impress her as to my value.

And does Yuna really need more money? She already gives it away to very worthy charitable causes by the truckload.

Ah. I meant was Yuna playing the media in order for ATS to keep milking money. Lol. Aka mother (not necessarily for herself to make money but to expand Yuna's financial empire for Yuna's sake).

She doesn't need more money but funny thing with money is you're never satisfied. Your ambitions keep changing and your satisfaction keeps changing. The happiest country is Bangledesh.:sheesh:

I knew what you meant - was just being a smartaxx :)

Does anyone remember reading something Yuna said before the Olympics?

She was asked something like "what would you like to do after Vancouver?"
Yuna said something like " I would like to get in a car and drive far away from everything."

I read that and thought, my, this poor gilr has so much pressure on her I don't know how she handles it. I hope Yuna will get in her car and drive away soon. I hope she drives long and and far away and has some time to experience the wonders of the road without agents, shows, coaches and maybe mom.
Go Yuna.......

People say those things sometimes Janet and they may really mean it. But then something happens and it changes your perspective. And you realize as much as you would like to keep that promise, you just can't. Think of it as a broken engagement or a divorce. You meant the promises you truly did, but crap happened.

You are absolutely right. That is also why if Yuna had skipped Wolrds last year - or even this year it wouldn't matter to me. I like seeing Yuna skate but I think this girl needs some down time. It jsut never ends for her between the training, performing, commercial shoots, interviews.

I wonder why her mom seems to miss this? I think of Mao at home in Japan with her family, her friends and her dog.
Gold medal or not - wonder who is happier? At this moment I suspect Mao by a mile.

Lol I figured you were. ;) Just clarified it anyways. Haha.

 Totally agree.

I play golf a lot. And I have an ultimate question about Michelle Wie.
Will she ever win?

She is now tie at -10 with Korean girl named Shin after 3rd round.

I think Ai Miyazato is a lot better than Wie even though Ai and Shin look a foot shorter than Wie.

I thought it was Denmark..

I know its off topic but...

Hmm maybe things changed. I thought the scandinavian/ north european countries were at the bottom, in direct relation to less sun exposure and indirect relation to social services/ health care/ standard of living. Didn't Sweden have the most suicides?

Wie is what? Over 6 ft tall? Is she attending Stanford?

There was a lot of hype with her but in terms of women's play never regained her form. If we're talking about golf... ;) nope that thing is best left alone and you all know what I'm talking about.

I did see a segment on 60 minutes a while ago - and Denmark, according to a study that had been done had the happiest people in the world. i love it there - such beautiful women, polite and smiling people - and yes, the Danish pastry, warmed up in a skillet with lots of butter is greattttttttttt. The Aquavit I can live without

I do. All day, all night. sorry.

I was pretty sure MY FACE was the happiest place on earth. Wait. Off-topic? Thought so.

Let's remember that this thread is about Yu-Na's coaching change. Not Mao, not other general Yu-Na news, not Denmark/Bangladesh, nor golf.

Just saying.
