The only reason I'm posting in this thread is because I heard from the Edge that Mao didn't win??

So this new Yu-Na Kim beat her by quite a bit. It'll be interesting to see if this is the beginning of a new dynasty, or just a series of fireworks- each skater gets their win and fair share of hype, and then fizzle out quickly soon afterward.

And Alissa- ANOTHER bad skate? My my, she was a TRUE one-hit wonder! I think she peaked at SA and SC and is going back to her old self. just too bad for her, really.

How nice that you've made your presence in these minor threads, but "this" Yu-Na Kim is not exactly "new". She made her junior debut last season together with Mao. Althought this is the first time Yu-Na has beaten Mao, they've been going head to head against each other at every competition they've skated at.

She had boot problems, lost a lot of training time and so decided to withdraw.

Mao beat Yu-Na in the JGPF and JWorlds last year (Yu-Na came in second in both I believe, Mao first)... This year, Yu-Na won the JGPF by a very wide margin (score somewhere in the 170's) and Mao was the GPF. So it was interesting to see them clash again an Jr. Worlds where Yu-Na has finally beaten Mao... but it seems that Mao had a very bad skate (for her, since she usually is a clutch skater too) and Yu-Na did fairly well. You should download some Yu-Na videos... she shows a lot of promise... very solid jumps and (IMHO) more maturity and interpretation than Mao. Yu-Na reminds me more of Michelle Kwan while Mao is a better (and hopefully longer lasting) Tara Lipinski.

The Japanese and Koreans obviously have some depth in their ranks! They look to be quite strong for the next several years.

The US will also have some younger skaters be age eligible next year...R Flatt (2nd in Jr this year),but others that potentially could do well who are already old enough are A. Wagner and M. Bulanhagui and J. Cannarozo as well as the novice champ R. Brammier.

What European skaters do you see coming up for next year?

IMO Kimmie is going to be a force for the USA in the next few years. She is already competing at the senior ranks and she is motivated to go for the big jumps, which makes her competitive with the Japanese.

I have still not seen Yu na Kim skate. I am very interested in comparing her skating with Mao's. I may not have to wait too long.

My goodness! That is incredible. Only 13 and already the top European lady in the junior ranks. She still has two or three years to go before she can compete in Europeans.

CN8, a local channel for mid-atlantic and New England regions, will show Junior Worlds on March 26 and April 2. Otherwise you can find videos online. Both Michelle Kwan forum cloud nine downloads and Skating Videos have videos of Mao and Yuna. (Skating Videos have videos of most ladies contendors, group 3 and 4)

I saw Yuna's full LP clip. But only very littel SP. How do you compare her SP and LP?

From the little Mao SP shown in clip and her LP shown on CN8's, looked like Mao did a better SP than LP? She lost interesting after first mistake on 3A, the whole program looked disintegrated more and more after.
