If Yuna steps up in her non-jumping elements and pcs and Mao brings other triples, the two will be like Michelle and Irina. As for Miki and Kimmie.. I can totally see Joannie and Nakano replacing their places. Yukari equipped with level 4 spins and questionable triple axel can easily beat 3-3 less Kimmie, sad, but true. Joannie seems like she can land at least five triples, and she has great programs this year. Although I resent the fact that Kimmie is already treated like granny in the midst of upcoming youngsters, she should really step up her game.
Kimmie does need to.. Wagner almost beating her should be a wake up call.

If the Good Alissa showed up for Nationals, with six solid triples -- OK, with five -- and won the U.S. Championship, I would be so happy for her I wouldn't care what happened at Worlds!Yeah, my fear is Good Alissa will show up for Nationals, and Bad Alissa will show up for worlds..
the more I think about it, the more I remember that the GP is a poor indicator of the second half of the season. So, come worlds, all this stuff will be as useful as last year's results in predictions. 
ETA: Rochette has been around for a while now and has yet to really step it up. There is no reason for me to believe that will change, except maybe for a freak solid performance (which I think already happened one year at Canadian Nationals). As for Nakano, she's simply a dark horse...can't say much more than that.

Well if you look at the scores, not placement, from GP last year, it was pretty descent indicator of the worlds, wasn't it? All three podium ladies made GPF, and Kimmie, although she didn't qualify for GPF, posted 4th (was it 5th?) highest score at her GP events.

Disagree GP is a great indicator.
For example in 2005. The highest COP scores in the GPF (discounting Mao)
were
Irina
Cohen
Arakawa. Now yeah, that's not the way the podium order worked out but it pretty clearly indicated who the top 3 in the world were, don't you think
Last year The people with the top scores
were
Mao
Ando
Yu-na... And funnily enough the person who looked the sharpest in the beginning of the year was Ando.
Now making the GPF isn't necessarily the best indicator because especially with the new talent coming in and other things, well the competitions weren't balanced last year. But well Meissner's scores I believe were fifth best, which is only a place lower than what she was actually at.. It's not a perfect indicator, but I do think it gives you a pretty good general idea of who the best in the world is..
Yeah, it's early in the season, but it's early in the season for everyone, and everyone is going to hopefully improve and peak.

*Sigh* What's your point? If you want to critique a skater, please do it with some respect. IMO, jump quality should not affect pcs (because, otherwise, what's the point of having pcs?). I believe Mao's pcs is where it should be. Although I believe some skaters get lower pcs than they deserve. Wagner definitely deserved better pcs. Yuna and Caroline deserved higher pcs at CoC. Lot of us believe judges abuse pcs to manipulate placement, and if that's true, comparing absolute value of pcs from different events is meaningless. Mao was definitely in league of her own and since she skated last, judges were bound to award her higher pcs than Kimmie.

I just saw Ashley Wagner's LP from Skate Canada and I must say I'm impressed. She has that refined mature appearance that Kimmie and Mao doesn't have (Kimmie and Mao look like kids next to her. Is it just me or is Mao getting thinner and thinner?). She reminds me of Carolina Kostner because of her physique, very statuesque. I think she's a better contender for the US than Kimmie.

Just saw Mao's LP from youtube,anyway I will watch the broadcast here in japan, good for her that she did not let go of the whole remaining programs after she fell on Triple axel as usual.
My very BIG surprise is Ashley, wow this realy rocks. She almost knocked Kimmie to third place, if Kimmie was not rescued by the kindly given PC score.
They shoud have identify more clearly PC criteria. WHY xxxx deserves skating skills 7.xx with numerous falls and so so performance, just that they are more well known?

poor kimmie... the report on this thread telling of her having such a hard time with her jumps but sill getting right back up to try again breaks my heart. how discouraged she must be feeling. especially as a skater who had been known before more for being technically better and consistent.
i dunno, my first thought this season when i saw her was that she looked a little thicker than i remembered around the midsection. and i know even super skinny skater yuna had some jump problems due to weight gain, and deliberately had to lose about 5 pounds. so maybe kimmie should try losing weight or something.
now, of course this is not easy, i know because i've been trying to lose the same 20 pounds for the past 10 years of my life!
mao looks pleased after her long program, i'm glad for her.
she seemed to have skated really really fast!

I just watched a bit Kimmie's LP. Her jumps did not have height which was not the case even last season. That's why she underrotated lots of jumps... Not sure if it's due to weight gain. She already gained some weight last season, and I frankly can't tell the difference.

I just do not think that these girls should try to lose some weight - Mao does not look like the little girl she was two years ago - but her jumps are still great. Losing weight is probably the wrong approach. And Ashley Wagner does not look thinner than Kimmie, but her jumps are really good and powerful. As for Yu-Na Kim - perhaps losing weight was right for her jumps, but that does not mean it would be right for Kimmies. Look at Arakawa in 2004 when she did triple-triple-double and became World-Champion - she did not look skinny or very thin at that time.

Poor Kimmie, I feel bad for her. I think the weight thing depends on the skater though. I too thought Kimmie looked quite bigger when I saw her at SA. But I hate to see her kill herself trying to be as thin as Mao or Yu - Na. but if its just 5 pounds throwing off your jumps I don't think that would be a big deal. Maybe Kimmie needs a coach that specializes in the jumps. She and Alissa need to move on. Its time to try something else.
