Ladies Long Program

I hope someone will understand with these numbers...

(in order of free skate ranking)

Yu na- Base tech value: 58.51 Tech value with GOE: 64.82 Total GOE: 6.31

Mao- Base tech value: 56.40 Tech value with GOE: 61.89 Total GOE: 5.49

Caro- Base Tech value: 64.28 Tech Value with GOE: 61.89 Total GOE: -2.4

I think it's all fair an square, I wish people would stop speaking of a scandal....

I don't think it's a scandal, but I think she gets held up in her marks. Aside from her opening combo, all I can remember are hands-down and shaky landings. I know Yu-Na only did 5 triples, 4 of which were rotated, but it was STILL better than watching shakiness throughout pretty much an entire program.

I'm officially disgusted.

Asada - Don't get me wrong, I admire her courage for continuing when I would have curled up into a little ball and cried like a baby. But really, except for hitting the jumps there was nothing there. I'm really reminded of the Zhangs. True, she didn't stop, but I've never seen a gold medalist with so little ooomph. It was almost as bad as Plushenko in Turin (as in disregarded everything else to hit the jumps). Just to be tacky: Hated the outfit, illusion fabric that doesn't match the skater's skin tone is fugly.

Kostner - Almost as bad as Jeff (watch me pick up points while I fall on this quad) Buttle. Has perfected the standard of "sloppy but it counts". Yech.

Kim - Really a sublime performer and athlete. Not her best tonight by a long shot. I'm not sure where I would have placed her, but higher than Kostner for sure.

Nakano - Really the only skater who seized the moment and created the magic that great skaters can where the total is greater than the the sum of its parts. What's her reward? 4th. I'm reminded of Janet Lynn in 1971. That result led to an overhaul in judging. I'm thinking that CoP is doing worse and worse.

I realized today that I would be a really tough figure skating judge with all of my underrotation calls. Am I evil or what? I thought a lot of these skaters were given slack by the judges on some of their "ratified" jumps.

Thank you Mao, Yu-Na, and Yukari for beautiful performances. Especially Mao and Yu-Na for your courage.
Thank you Kimmie for earning two spots!
And thank you Carolina for not falling.

Congratulations to Mao Asada!  :agree:

And congratulations to Caro Kostner and Yu Na Kim too for the medals!

I am sooo mad

Not at the judging, although it was definetly confusing and inconsistant (Yukari beating Yu-Na in PCS? )

Not at the fact that there were so many mistakes

But at Joannie. When will she stop breaking my heart??? SHE COULD HAVE WON THIS. I'm not even kidding, look at her levels! all 4s, and 3 for Step sequence. Noone got better levels. good GEOs all around. FINALLY does a great 3-3 sequence. What does she blow it on? Popping her BEST jump. hand down on her first lutz and only doing a 2 jump combo. Not once did she miss the 3lz-2t-2l ALL SEASON. Forget the SP and her backing out of the 3-3 and making a mistake on the lz, All she needed was an LP like 4CC and She would be world champion. I'm so bitter and depressed. Why must I keep falling in love ad getting attached to skaters who keep breaking my heart? I feel as horrible right now as I did after the 2002 olympics LP.

Why Joannie?? WHY????

Nakano would be my winner today, if not for that terribly under rotated triple axel. She basically only does 2 revolutions in the air. So I would have placed her 3rd, but Kostner got credit for all her messy jumps. Oh well. But yes, Nakano was the only one out of the top 4 who really sparkled today. I thought Yu-Na had a little bit of that spark, too, but not as much as Nakano.

It's heartbreaking and she must be kicking herself wondering why. Her season best LP from 4CC of 119.50 + her Worlds SP of 59.53 would have been a total of 179.03, only enough for 4th place here. Her PCS are the major problem. The judges have always marked her low in that score.

But she's finally got the levels that could give her the scores she needs to be on top

My goodness, If only...

Anyone got youtube links? I'm so mad to missed have out of all this drama because of work (damn work). Can't wait to see some videos!

Ok, maybe you didn't get the point...
Kostner had the highest tech mark base, it's not like the points came from nowhere...and she got positive goe just for the initial jump, steps and spiral.
All of the spins are Zero Goe except one.
Even the loop and the axel received no and negative goe respectively (had it been Kim or Asada you would see now a positive goe laying down there...)

I see the same number of hands down as you, and they were rewarded with
-1
-2
-0.86
-1.57

no, can you please answer if this is not fairly recognized?

It really bothers me people judge by reading the feed that viewers (kindly) report on the board. And also don't go and see the program with a notepad before talking...

I gotta say something:

I love Caro, and am happy for her (just like 2005, don't think she deserved it, but I'm still very happy for her)

but she ows both her world medals to the 3flip-3toe-2loop. They saved her both times

Very Very much true. that jump gave her the edge for the podium

Wow! I really don't know what to say.
I'm really happy for Yuna coming back strong!:love::love:
That was absolutely beautiful, breath-taking.
At the same time I'm really sorry for Yuna for her PCS!!!! I just don't understand...
She shouldn't be behind Caro. She just seemed so wobbly and sloppy.
I know she finally did kind of clean program but still.... the quality is just...
Oh well.

Her levels really haven't been the problem. The PCS are what's killing her. The judges are basically telling her you're a terrific jumper when the elements are on, but we don't particularly care for your in-betweens and performance expression and execution. It's unfortunate and I often feel she is under-appreciated in the PCS even when she skates well.

Water under the bridge...

Congrats to all the medalists!!

Kudos to Mao's courage to complete her program after that disastrous fall!!
Congrats to Carolina, at least she stayed on her foot!!
Last but not least, Yuna, you were dazzling!!

Joannie will re-group and come back even stronger. As Kurt Browning said on CBC coverage, Joannie must do 3-3 consistently and relax her tight/stiff upper body. Then, we will see a Great World Champion in the making!!!! She is more than capable of doing this.

I'm happy that Manon Perron (Joannie's coach) told her to get 3-3 last Spring. In my heart, Joannie is the best.
