Ladies Short Program - SHOWDOWN - Asada vs. Meissner

Meissner

Kimmie was good but not great.Beautiful triple flip. She had trouble with the triple lutz combination(singled the planned triple toe and landing on two feet). Rest of the program was good.

Wow! Look at those PC Scores!

Considering the TES, I am *very* surprised! Not having actually seen the skate, I am trying to keep an open mind....

Well she wasn't any better or worse than usual skating wise...it's just that it was obvious the judges were determined to have her in first (at least before Mao skated) regardless of how her jumps turned out.

Mao Asada

Mao only landed a triple flip single loop. She landed the lutz and axel cleanly. If there was ever such thing as front loading jumps in a short program.Good performance other than the combination.

Very close between the top 3

Kimmie beat Mao in TES and Mao beat Kimmie in PCS. It will be interesting to see if Mao once again got a -3 for her flutz. Protocols probably won't be up until after the competition though. :(

Glebova also had a clean 3T+3T SP at Skate Canada. Her 2A+3T+2T x in the FS at SC is the 2nd highest scoring element so far this season, only trailing Kim's 3F+3T at Cup of Russia. Wagner is the stronger FS program skater, though, because Glebova apparently still struggles with her 3Lz and 3F.

I think Wagner now has a chance to pull out a bronze medal especially if Mieir has a couple of hiccups.

Thanks, bekalc--you brought up a good point there.

Thanks, ChrisH, for the information. I was fascinated by the TES in this ladies' event, and thinking how frustrating the PCS results must be for Glebova.

I applaud the ISU for FINALLY starting to penalize faulty technique in terms of wrong edge take-offs and under-rotations. If only such fair judging had been in existence in the past.
