Ladies Short Program

To me, Shiza's flip was cheated. CBC showed the replay and I called it 1/2-1/4 turn cheat.

FYI: the technical specialist is Canadian Michael Slipchuck

GO SLIPPER!!!!! :rock: (sorry had a Kurt Browning moment lol)

That's part of the point of the new scoring system....They don't have to "leave room" for anybody. Slutskaya was overscored.
In fact, one cannot say if she's overscored. Will she be overscored in the comparison with her rivals ? That will be the point.

Irina flutzed, Shizuka lipped. I guess they cancel each other out. They were, so far, miles ahead of the field in terms of quality. The FS is gonna be great.

It's so nice to see that this is actually going to be a competition! Slute's definitely not going to have the "three-fall lead" that Plush had going into the long. What's even more encouraging is that these ladies both skated very similar programs and received very similar scores, so hopefully that means that if Shiz skates a long program that is better than Irina's she will get credit for it.

I'm very happy for Shiz and that Slutskaya doesn't have such a monstrous lead over her next competitor. I want to see a COMPETITION out there, not a fight for Silver/Bronze.

Good luck Fumie, Carolina, and Sasha! You go girls! :thumbsup:

wheee!!! shizuka right up irina's tail after the short. OMG. it will be a dogfight this thursday. at least it will be a real competition no matter how sasha skates. i like that. :agree:

The Euro guys are saying Fumie just had a good warm up-triple flip/triple toe. They weren't too clear about Sasha-I'm not sure if she had a good warm up or what. They said she was 'iffy'. :(

Go girls!

Ukraine's Liashenko landed all her jumps, it sounds like she's doing great!

Aside from the scores, I think it is somehow fitting that the top two ladies are current and former World Champs.........42

LIASHENKO

Sorry, I was on the phone, but she had a clean skate, with some major telegraphing before the flip and lutz.

TES= 27.47
PCS= 24.88
Total= 52.36

FUMIE SUGURI

3Lz-2t verrrrrrry nice, the lutz just popped into the air
3f- gorgeous
Spiral Sequence was very nice
She just caresses the ice
2a- right on the music
Her emotions are starting to show now; she's really selling this program
Straightline footwork- very difficult, but good speed
All of the spins were nice

My favorite performance so far!

TES=32.61
PCS=29.14
Total=61.75
She's currently in third place, behind Slutskaya and Arakawa, but in striking distance.

I'm listening along on Eurosport live audio--the NBC site with scores became inaccessible--I guess it was just too busy. Fortunately, Eurosport also gives the mark totals. :)

I'm watching on CBC. I missed the first flight but I imagine they'll show Joannie again tonight. Too bad she out her hand down.

What just happened to Carolina?? I just heard an 'aw' from the audience and all the Euro announcer says is 'what a shame'! Frustrating!
