Yukari has certain qualities that make her look graceful, which gives her small edge over Joannie. But, Joannie's program was so much better constructed, and she interpreted the music very well whereas Yukari's program was little boring. Yukari also looked pretty disturbed/annoyed after the fall throughout the rest of performance (and even at K&C). JMO

But Yukari still beat Joannie in TES... I would be interested to see the protocols.

Thanks for all of the reports. The only thing I can say about the results besides WOW is that old saying "the ice is slippery" and anything can happen and it did. Way to go Emily!!!

Yes, I know that *Alissa Cziny* isn't at SC. However, *Alisa Drei is* and it would have been nice to have been able to see her SP instead of whomever it was at the control board switching it over to three or four ads instead.

Woahh. Im Sooo proud of Emily!! EMILY I LOVE YOU RIGHT NOW!! I think, if Asada is flawed, Emily has a huge chance. If i was her after SA, I wouldbt be able to help but feel disappointed to lose to a skater that is "bringing in the new era," and is so young. After this, I hope she remembers why she has stood on that National Podium.
Unfortunately (sorry to crash the party), Emily has her own freeskate troubles. I don't think she's had a clean FS yet. She usually messes up one or two jumps, falling on one. She'd have to pull a, well "Hughes" (lol) and be totally on while relying on Asada to mess up (again). now, *could* happen but the odds are severely against it. Frankly, I think there'd be too much of a point difference between the two skates, even at Asada's worst and Hughes' best, that it's next to impossible. but we'll see.
ETA: I see that the Skate Gods heard all the crowning of Mao as the greatest, and responded in kind. I wonder what will happen next.

Well, depends what you mean by Asada's worst. If it's anywhere near a meltdown, than Hughes has a chance. Meltdown as in popping or leaving out some jumps, or perhaps underrotations. I go grant though that hands-down landings and falls won't ruin Asada's chances of winning, as long as she rotates all her jumps.
I don't know about all the Japan skates but from what I've seen I think that Asada is steady enough to not let a mistake unravel her (this is unlike Ando). I just don't see her being upset by someone like Hughes. Just don't.
The skate order is going to be very interesting; will the two skate after each other? and will it be Hughes-Asada or Asada-Hughes?

I'm so happy for Lepistö! She is wonderful. Her basics are to die for (I think they're some of the best in the world right now) , and she is quite well rounded. This is the second competition in a row in which she's landed the 3toe-3toe. I hope she can do well tomorrow. She got screwed last year when Korpi was sent to Euros instead of her.
It's crazy to think that there's a good chance Kiira Korpi might not make it to Euros this year!
Color me shocked though. I left for dinner with Lepisto just skated and in first and I came back and she's still in first. Could've knocked me over with a feather.

Maybe...the only recent competition I remember where Mao wasn't leading going into the SP is Worlds, where she hit almost everything in the LP. Then again, the only competitions where she skated well last season were in Japan...we'll see what happens, I guess.
I guess the caller at Skate Canada is a lot more lenient than the one at SA.
About Asada: she has a tendency to lose her concentration if she makes a mistake. She doesn't seem to be able to get over the fact that she's not perfect, and she tends to skate the rest of her program mechanically, without much enthusiasm
Her fixation on being perfect is her Achilles heel. She needs to get over it ASAP if she wants to be #1.
Sandhu was like that, too. Once he made a mistake, he'd just give up and sleepwalk through the rest of the program.

Okay, I'm really confused. Did the judges just choose to ignore Emily's severely cheated jumps? I REALLY want to see the ladies' protocols!

I thought the jumps were almost all the way around...they weren't nearly as bad as last week.

chuckm, I am just curious since I know you like Meissner, are you encouraged that Meissner got higher PCS then Ando in both programs last week (which is the main reason she won) and now Asada in the short program this week compared to last too?
