Legacy on Ice in Philadelphia featuring Johnny Weir, Isabeau Levito, Alysa Liu and other figure skaters to remember those killed in the tragic airplane crash. World-class skaters announced a tribute show set for Labor Day at the University of Pennsylvania to honor the victims.

Assuming that this is at the Class of 23 rink (not quite sure where else it would be on campus), the rink is within walking distance of Philadelphia's 30th Street Station.

For everyone who complains about shows inaccessible to public transportation. :)

Like me? LOL.

I might try to attend this as its an easy Amtrak train ride from NYC. - some round trip routes are as cheap as $50.

Apparently tickets go on sale tomorrow at $100 each. There will be two shows on Labor Day at 1PM and 5PM, although I can't find an event page. I'm following Philadelphia Skating Club for ticket info.

No, I think the local media jumped the gun? ...

I do not think it was a case of local media jumping the gun.
I think it was a case of event organizers not living up to information that they already had provided to the media and had wanted the media to disseminate.

The media obviously were invited to cover the in-person announcement of the shows, by Liu, Levito, and Weir at PSCHS.
And the media in good faith then told their viewers/readers information that came from event organizers -- for example, that Thursday would be the first day of ticket sales.
For whatever reason, event organizers in fact did not start selling on Thursday [ETA: at least not to the public?], which is not the media's fault.
ETA: I do believe that event organizers are well-intentioned, even with their bumpy start.

Anyway, the Legacy site now says [ETA: with garbled day/date!]: "Tickets go on sale to the public on Tuesday, June 2nd at 10am et"

ETA:
Caveat: Above I had copied and pasted from the Legacy website (which has not been fixed), but ... June 2 is actually on Monday.
I now see that Legacy's Instagram post today says:
"Public on-sale begins Tuesday, June 3rd — and based on what we’ve seen so far, they won’t last long."
Legacy on X today:
"Public on-sale begins Tuesday, June 3rd"

I received an email from LOI the other day with the update that the show date has been moved out to Saturday December 13th, presumably to accommodate Ilia Malinin's schedule. Ilia's manager, Ari Zakarian, is a producer on the show, so his appearance is a no brainer. The wording in the email below makes me think that more Team USA OG hopefuls will be performing.

Oddly, they have not updated the main website with the new date and Ilia's appearance. There are no links to ticket sales so I wonder if it's sold out? I'm kind of bummed for the date push as I was looking forward to attending the show on Labor Day but the silence around the "additional cast TBA" made me think something was up. I'm happy to see Ilia has joined the cast as I really do enjoy him live. Here is the email text in full.

A holiday celebration
❄️
and one of the final tune-ups for U.S. Olympic hopefuls before the Olympic Games!!!

Good morning!

Less than two months before the Winter Games, and now with a new December date, Legacy on Ice in Philadelphia will be one of the final tune-ups for our U.S. Olympic hopefuls — just weeks before the Olympic Trials. It’s a rare chance to see these incredible athletes at their peak, in a festive holiday celebration
❄️
that’s as magical as the season itself.

And now, making it even more special, 2x reigning World Champion and gold medal favorite, the “Quad God” Ilia Malinin will be joining his fellow U.S. Olympic hopefuls — in one of the few public exhibitions any of our stars will perform before Milan 2026, where the U.S. may be fielding the strongest Olympic Figure Skating Team in its history.

To make this all possible, the show has been rescheduled to:

➡ Saturday, December 13

(Same showtimes, same seats you’ve already chosen — just one week after the prestigious ISU Grand Prix Final, the last major international competition before the Olympic Games.)

Your ticket purchase is helping future U.S. skaters, as all net revenues from the December show will go to the newly created National Development Team Legacy Fund, supporting future generations of skaters from coast to coast.

As a special Holiday Gift, all original ticket holders — no matter your seat level — will receive a beautiful hardcover Legacy on Ice commemorative book at the December show, a gift from us.

You’re hearing this first, so we’d appreciate you helping us keep it a special surprise until we publicly announce the new show details early next week.

No action is needed — your tickets automatically transfer to December 13, same 1pm show time. If the new date presents a conflict, reply to this email and we’ll assist you.

We can’t wait to see you in December for what will truly be a once-in-a-lifetime night.

We’ll be in touch soon with more exciting updates!

Thank you,
Legacy on Ice

Following up from my last post in August, here is my review/report of the event, which was held yesterday.

I traveled to Philadelphia’s University city neighborhood to see American Gold Live aka Gold on Ice Philly fka Legacy on Ice Philly. This 2 show event was originally scheduled to happen on Labor Day but was pushed out to December 13th. I attended the first of two shows of the day, and it was far from sold out, except for the on ice seats. The Class of 1923 rink was freezing even in the back row where I sat with my friend.

Despite the chaotic behind the scenes vibe the event organizers gave off, the show was a good one with various levels of American talent, some of whom we will see in Milan in February, as host Brian Boitano told the audience when he was introduced. Having Brian Boitano host was a good move after Johnny Weir dropped out, because everyone loves Brian, the 1988 OGM.

Among the cast besides the (endlessly hyped by the organizers) Ilia, Isabeau and Alysa triad, were first year Senior (and 2024 JGPF champ) Jacob Sanchez, GPF participants and on the rise ice dancers Emilea Zingas and Vadym Kolesnik and current US pairs Silver medalists Katie McBeath and Daniil Parkman. Some local skaters, including Meghan Huffman, a current US junior who skated a lovely tribute to her friend who died in the AA5342 crash. a synchro team and a troupe of skaters dressed in lighted costumes rounded out the cast for the 70-minute show.

[rant incoming] Did I know that Jacob or M/P were in the show? Other than a random post by Golden Skate’s socials where Jacob said he would be skating in Ilia’s show (they are good buds), I would have had no inkling. Katie and Daniil were a pleasant surprise, I wonder if they were a last-minute addition because I didn’t see anything about them skating here. Again, chaotic vibe.

I took a bunch of videos of the more prominent skaters, enjoy! The performances were good with a few mistakes here and there but otherwise a solid and entertaining way to pass an hour or so on a pre-holiday weekend.

ETA: I never did get a commemorative LOI book that was mentioned in the August email, hmmm.
