Let’s dance 80’s! New Rhythm Dance article

I've been desperate to choreograph a routine to Ultravox's Vienna since I first heard it, back in the early 80s. Sadly, never had the skater(s) to do justice to it.
well i know a couple of very young and talented british skaters who could...
Would love to see someone do Sade Smooth Operator..
we need more Sade!

Since this is essentially "Songs I like from the 80s that I want to see skated", can I play too? I do not see as many songs from the stations (yes stations, children) that I listened to here. Can I say that I do not expect any skater to ever skate to these, but I feel some tunes have not been represented. :)

Ai No Corrida Quincy Jones (Louis Johnson from the Brothers Johnson on bass! James Ingram and Patti Austin on vocals! Need I say more:drama:

Mama Used to Say Junior

My JAM from back in the day

And of course a Gap Band medley

slow portion: Outstanding

mid tempo: You Dropped A Bomb on Me

fast: Burn Rubber

Whatever the 80s ID programs are this season, I hope we are surprised and delighted by variety and creativity from different teams - I hope we see New Wave, Goth, Hair Metal, Synth pop, Rap, R&B and other genres. I don't want a bunch of generic MJ, Madonna or Whitney programs.

Can I request a Duran Duran program? I don't think anyone has done that before. Something funky that includes "Notorious" would be great.

Love "Ai No Corrida" (and the whole "The Duke" album for that matter -- and the Gap Band!

And...love Duran Duran! I think "Notorious" is an excellent suggestion. How about for the new team of Smart / Dieck? I think they've got the sass for it!

Here's another funky one that I'd love to see a team try, but it's from 1976 so it would have to be an FD or wait for the 70s to a be an RD LOL:

Bill Withers Just The Two Of Us was released in 1980 so I guess it counts..
And I love the song
Especially done exactly like this❤️🥰😻

With Philadelphia's own Grover Washington Jr on sax:love2: Love the clip.

Ah, my heyday of the 80's (and late 70's).

Here's an idea but it may be too fast. Or else, A Ha's "Take on Me"

By the way, I've seen some great suggestions on this thread.

Down Under - Men At Work

Flute is awesome!

Also:

Strange Night - Tim Finn

you're making it sound like it's a bad thing  what else should it be if not "the music we like from the 80s"?

anyways!

the musical rock of ages has some of the best rock hits of the decade, i'd love a program to this musical

Music we like is never a bad thing. :) But, as has been mentioned above, "Music I like from the 80s" does not equate to "Music good for skating".

After all, let's look at the junior men. (yes!) *Someone* must like that modern whiny emo music (that someone would not be me. ;) ), those tunes are probably cool among people "in the know", they are certainly not warhorses.

And no one, let alone as many of the junior men who did, should be skating to them.

What's wrong with emo/pop-punk? Lol.

Absolutely nothing, personal music taste is personal music taste. I'm not even sure if I'm describing it correctly, I have seen it described elsewhere on social media as "Sad Boi" music. We all like what we like. :)

Just like I have a very different perspective on what is new, or special, or interesting in the 80s, based on the stations I listened to, the albums I bought, the clubs I hit, the concerts I attended, than someone else might have. Not better or worse, just different.

But if the skaters are gonna skate to it, for me personally, it needs a beat, it needs to build, and please skating gods, not so much sad. ;)
