Li Zijun

Not Rostelecom - Rostelecom is another name for Cup of Russia, the GP event. Probably what is meant is Nebelhorn - but only countries who have no spot can use this as a last attempt to earn a spot. A country that already has spots can't gain any more.

Update:
Just to follow up on the above guess, Zijun's reaction certainly caught he fed off guard so they have to put an injured Ziquan for wc2017.

Meanwhile, such decision from the fed also caught Zijun off guard as she probably wouldt think that the fed can actually really let her not going to wc2017. Her initial proposition of not going to wc might just be an attempted threat to the fed that if you are not going to let me go to the olympics and I won't even fight for those spots for you.

Her ideal is of course to go to both wc and the olympics. But now it seems the fed also got annoyed by her threat and decided to play tough. They still placed her as a sub and didnt disclose what is really going on which means there are probably still room for softening of the situation. Zijun probably needs to make some sincere apology to the fed and two parties need to reconcile and talk things out. That is why the fed team leader said that the list is not final yet.

Hope they can make peace soon. And today' s CCTV news still report Zijun as the one to sent to wc and Ziquan as a sub. Hope that is the final result.

But Zijun cannot win a spot for herself at Nebelhorn. That is not how it works.

Why not? If China didn't manage to win a spot via wc2017 (and it is quite likely as Ziquan Zhao didn't even manage to skate her free in last worlds and xiangning is a newbie), she can go to nebelhorn. As long as she gets a top 6 finish, she earns a spot.

I think what Zijun means by "Reality is difficult, conspiracy is even more brutal" is that all these fan's conspiracy i.e the Fed using her and then kicking her out etc. are very harmful and hard on her and her team although reality is not great at the moment. Some fans need to use some logic before they write whatever nonsense they can think of. The Fed pays for her training and she is the best there is. Of course they would want the best for her.

That comment came before any fan conspiracies. As for the fed's wanting the best for her, that is laughable. Federations want what is best for them and their bottom line. Most are more than willing to sacrifice their skaters for their own interest. Sadly, this has been proven one too many times across many federations.

Only if China has NO spot, then China can win a spot at Nebelhorn - even if it is Zijun who wins it, it wouldn't be hers.

Brooklee Han won a spot for Australia last time Nebelhorn was a qualifying event - and the spot was almost given to another skater. It is the COUNTRY that earns the spot, not the skater individually. If Zijun wins a spot at Nebelhorn - the Chinese fed could give the Olympic spot to whatever skater they wish.

Their own interest is for their skaters to have the best results. And if the Fed wants what's best for them that includes what's best for their skaters, that is logic.

Gezz between Chinese fed and French fed, I don't know which is worse. :hopelessness:

I hope Zijun will go to WC and Olympic and do well. So they will shut up.

All I know is this : Zijun, do what you have to do. You only live once and if you don't fight for your dreams and goals, no one else will.

:scratch2:  :curse:

Sounds like they all need to get into a room and sort this out. So is she competing or what?!! :sad21:

Dear Chinese Federation,
Figure skating is an individual sports. Ask not what the skater can do for you, but what you can do to support the skater. Overt hunger for power, pride, and nationalism are short sighted illusions of cheapened self gratification that won't be judged well in history.

Dear Zijun,
Figure skating is a political sport, it has always been. Ask not what the federation can do for you but what you can do for yourself and the country. Know that life is not all about fairness and justifying rewards. Brave all your trials and tribulations smartly, tactfully and selflessly. Look at how your idol had to deal with it all... and always look at the big picture, the real world. Control what you can, do your best and just hope your merits can overcome all the fog and nonsense that is beyond your control. Stay pure in intention, and try not to have expectations, easier to survive as a figure skater.

I think betting all on Xiangning Li and already deciding to give her the one Olympic spot in 2018 would be really stupid.

I like Xiangning's jumps and I see lots of potential in her but she's clearly pre-puberty. At the Olympics in 2022 she will be post-puberty and we all know, that nobody can foretell how puberty will play out at the ladies.

Therefore deciding to give the sole spot in 2018 to Xiangning because they see potential in 2022 even if Zijun is the better skater in 2018 is totally stupid. I have a hard time believing the fed forgot that xiangning will still be going through puberty, therefore having a hard time to believe this theory. But who knows, maybe someone in the fed is really short-sighted....

Probably the fed thought themselves being far-sighted by channeling more support to the younger skater. After all, they have been supporting Zijun for so many years always trying to give her almost the best in the world and her result is still not fulfilling the fed's expectation.

Also, the fed's intention to give xiangnjng the spot in 2018 might just be a thought or still in debate among the management team. Zijun might have somehow felt that as she began to say this year quite a few times that she is already an old skater, there are so many talented young skaters, and implicitly ask her fans to cherish the time now when she is still competing. But that is just a feeling, until recently she returned to Beijing and probably somehow realized that the team might be really thinking something so she took an immediate and strong strike on the fed.

There many guesses, the above I said including in previous posts is just one version. I feel that this version is more likely. The other version which is actually hinted by some "senior" fans is about anti-doping (she intentionally skipped a doping test and used it as threat to the fed asking for long term overseas training). Since it is such a serious issue, no one likes to elaborate it further.

zijun also made it clear (on weibo previously) that she wanna continue to 2022 OG. that is why she insist that she will change lutz edge even against many fans's pessimistic opinion.
The scenario you posted is indeed the most possible one so far and somehow can connect the dots. but it is still a speculation. it is not a good idea to extrapolate too far.

here is some support from her friend/fellow skaters/teammate

from Bingwa(who I think retired now but is one of the 3 selected ladies skater including zijun to go US to study before )
"只说一句Always stay with you [心] 挺你" "Just one sentence Always stay with you, support you".

from junior Chinese pair skater Zhong Xie
"加油啊,不要放弃!坚持做你自己,往前冲,哪怕累了 倒下了,还有我们做你的后盾" "Add oil, never give up, be yourself, fight forward, even if you are tired and fall down, still has us to hold your back".

also Chinese short track speed skater wei Ma, also supported Zijun.

Zijun is fully capable of placing herself in the top 12 at Worlds, so as long as the other skater can advance to the FS, China can have two skaters at the Olympics. I really see no point of pushing the other skaters over Zijun at this point.

...:( I'm so confused and disappointed with the Chinese federation. I just want to give Zijun a big old hug.

Actually Zhao Ziquan did skate her free last worlds.
