Li Zijun

This is all a huge mess. What I know for sure is: I wish Zijun the best and that she and every other of the Chinese skaters for the olympic team is selected fairly and deservingly.

As for all the rumors about the fed being the bad guy or zijun being the bad one, I don't know Zijun in person. But from what I've gathered from interviews, documentaries and her posts, she is no malicious person, but quite the contrary. She always came off as a gracious person who is hard on herself and having high expectations of herself. She is not the catty conspiring type and doesn't like to wear flashy clothes, but instead prefers simple no name clothes or training clothes. She sure has a strong mind, she definitely doesn't bomb her skates by being a headcase. I can't figure out what the issue right now is, but putting skaters through this amount of stress right before departure for worlds (ziquan also) is plain stupid. I hope we'll get to know the truth in the future...

Not every story needs to have a hero and a villain. I see that many people want to believe that Zijun is a victim and the Chinese fed a bad guy. In this case, the bad guy has spoken clearly but people don't want to believe them. The heroine, meanwhile, posts cryptic messages that people interpret according to what they want to believe.

What are true in the fed's account include 1) Zijun has been demoted but not taken out of Worlds entries, final selection to be announced pending further development; 2) She has not been in training, in fact for 12 days as revealed by Zijun herself.

What is believable from the fed: They want to send the best athletes to Worlds, and the Olympics of course.

The fed's statements which have not been verified: 1) Zijun had not been well, and 2) the unofficial report of her request to be released from Worlds competition (which together with her Weibo message gets woven into a conspiracy story).

To me it seems Lijun is put on probation while both sides reconsider. The fed really wants her to go to Worlds but she has to either want to go herself or fulfill some conditions.

I tend to believe 1) she will skate at Worlds 2017 and 2) No matter what, she has to fight for and earn her Olympics spot for both 2018 and 2022.

Well said! Nothing is clear so fans need to jumping to all sorts of conclusions. We don't know what Zijun has done to cause this or if its the Fed causing things. At the end they both want the same thing for them to do the best.

Zijun was just added back into the entry list!

I hope this is final now! No more changes please!

Zijun is under more pressure than ever before to deliver!! Now or never!!!

It is the only way she can secure herself a place in the Olympics. Fight fight fight!!! Top 9 should do it? (9th @ WC can still win OGMs)

12 days no training worries me, but then again, it may keep her fresh and extra inspired and 'really perform'! I remember when Yuna hurt her back and been off the ice for months, ends up creating one of her best performance ever the El Tango @ WC.

At least the fed didn't lie about her not training regularly.

However, there is a relatively new and very successful training method that actually schedules a period of rest for the athlete before competition. Hope this actually works for Zijun.

what is the combined placement needed to secure 2 spots? Cheering for Zijun to skate as if her life depends on it! You gooo!

Their combined placements must add up to 28 or less to keep the 2 spots.

Ok, I think depending on zijuns form, a top 10 finish is quite possible and then xiangning needs to finish higher than 18th which is reasonable too :) so then there woild be 2 olympic spots, for both zijun and xiangning :)

A skater needs only to qualify for the free skate to receive 18 points. So if Zijun finishes in the top ten, there will be 2 spots for China.

I hope everybody shakes off the recent brouhaha and distractions to skate to their standard.

Zijun,
Skate fierce, skate proud, be a Diva~!! Make it count!!

Maybe this whole saga will become a blessing in disguise. Zijun must be feeling pretty emotional after this but she can channel all those emotion into her skate esp her Only for love fs. Hopefully it will make her skate with much more emotion and raise your pcs.

Glad to see her name back on the roster! Hopefully there won't be anymore changes...

Go Zijun! :hap10:

Actually qualifying for the free skate gives you 16 points, if Xiangning gets to the free skate, Zijun will only need 12th place and up to earn 2 spots. If Xiangning does not, then Zijun will need 10th or higher.

not new... it's called a taper... and usually rest means that instead of X hours you do x/y hours... so you reduce your training... not stop it completely. I am not into conspiracy theories. But I am worried. If she isn't performing well enough this time around, for whatever reason, being injured, being ill or just the whole weirdness around the selection for worlds, I feel that she will be in trouble for the future.... maybe it would have been better to stay home.... I don't know. I wish her to have a good time at worlds.

New. Complete stop for a few days after a system and schedule of training.

I'm concerned for her state of mind. She put up resistance due to some belief, true or false, relating to other people instead of focusing on doing the best for herself. Resistance is self defeating. This is additional mental burden than what most competitors normally deal with. It is not easy to let it all go to focus on the performance when she steps onto the competition ice, especially without the normal preparation she is used to.

I don't really want to think negatively but be open to happy surprises she may bring us.

surprising for a skill sport like FS.... i doubt anyone does that in this sport... i can see it for track.... or swimming.

It's not completely new so I said relatively new. I read about it maybe a couple of years ago and I don't think it's widely adopted. I don't remember all the details but brought it up in hope of Zijun lucking into the principle behind it.

Zijun is back in thank goodness! Hope she can skate great and convince the Chinese fed to stop picking on her once and for all!

I think she has a great chance to earn 2 Olympic births for China!

As long as she places within 12th and another skater advances to FS, then they will be fine. To avoid any fiasco in the future when CSA decides who to be sent to the Olympics, 2 spots would be way better than one spot not only for Zijun and the other candidate.
