Madison Chock & Evan Bates

Thank you lauravvv, cocotaffy and 4u4a. And Cocotaffy for the BESP video.

I do agree quite a lot with Staviski, especially about V/M's FD "well, they began good: interesting and beautiful but then it palled, it was quite boring to watch during 4 minutes". I also liked Gilles/Poirier's SD and FD. So, overall, I would have put Chock/Bates 1st, Gilles/Poirer 2nd and V/M 3rd.

Staviski said that Madison and Evan had interesting transitions and elements in their FD and that they had skated well, but that he still preferred "the Canadians", not that he preferred Virtue/Moir. Both of them liked Gilles/Poirier's FD a lot, and after V/M had skated they said that they preferred Gilles/Poirier to them, so I think after Chock/Bates skated "the canadians" Staviski was talking about where still Gilles/Poirier, not Virtue/Moir.

hmmm, maybe you're right actually, it makes sense then. Anyway C&B aren't their faves :( (who cares )

I like these placements better! :slink:

Does anyone have a video of Maddie & Evan's SC SP and FD with British or American commentary, please

Really dying to hear what they have to say, especially from the British guys. I only get the Russians ones on Youtube, I wish I understand Russian but I don't, so don't know what they are saying. I know that Tatiana Tarasova last year at Worlds was yelling 'bravo bravo' at Maddie & Evan's Free Dance. The Russians are more honest and direct (they say it for what they see) in their commentary but wish someone could interpret them. I really can't stand the 'Canadian' lady - far too bias, don't mind Kurt Browning.
The Russian commentary was fully translated on this thread

Thank you so much, cocotaffy!!

I enjoyed reading that. I thought it was very positive and they think very highly of Chock and Bates. When one of them said she preferred the Canadians, as in Gilles/Poirier, it was more a subjective liking rather than Chock and Bates' skate was weaker. They thought the step sequence was crisp and sure, interesting movements and the dance was fitting to the music. I don't blame them for liking Gilles /Poirier, I too was very impressed with their whole creativity and ingenuity. The most boring was V/M for both SP and FD. I think winning the FD here would only fuel Maddie and Evan to totally win the whole event in their next outing, also it sends the signal that V/M are totally beatable!!!

There was not a "she". The regular commentator is Alexander Grishin, and the guest commentator was Maxim Staviski (2006 and 2007 World champion in ice dance with Albena Denkova) ;).

Thanks Lauravvv!! Yes I, I remembered listening to the Russian commentary, there were 2 male voices. Silly me!! 😀

I absolutely loved their exhibition gala program. So cool, so relaxed and humorous- just exactly what I want when I watch Galas. Great idea! And congrats with silver at Skate Canada!

And yet, they have all those important messages in their program. They are such artists, with great depth and thoughts!

That short dance is Golden!!! I feel like many don't consider them a real podium threat, but they are definitely in the mix for the top 3 wherever they go! :hap57:

The people who don't consider them a podium threat just don't like them and are in denial, I'm sorry. Both history and the current season clearly demonstrate they are capable of it.

Agree! They are awesome. If they can beat V/M in the Free Dance in Canada, they can pretty much do it all.

I don't think they've been off the podium in any competition they've been in over the last 3 seasons, have they? Consistency is one huge reason they have the #1 world ranking. I think everyone who is paying attention knows they are always a favorite for a podium spot.

Like this one, pretty intense, http://dolceflute.gallery.ru/watch?ph=PG2-gNPjC For the love of art, and the fight to be at the top. Hoping for the very best for Madi and Evan!

I was actually kind of speechless when I saw all these photos (in a good way). I also notice this season they are also doing a more intimate (I don't know if that's the right word) presentation while skating into position to start both programs. All this has to be intentional.

You're right... and the only times they were off the podium in 13-14 season was Worlds and the Olympics...Also, in the past 3 seasons, the only time they were lower than 2nd was Worlds last year.

I think, it is intentional (for effect, I guess) and I also think, they have become really close and very comfortable with each other. Romantically involved? I doubt it - just very comfortable with each other.

Whatever it is, I like it!

Other than the twizzle mistake I actually thought their performance today was incredible- as crisp and nuanced as anything we've seen from them! This should be enough to get them to the GPF so hopefully we'll be able to see it entirely clean then :cheer:
