Mao Asada

This is probably too much to ask, but does anyone have direct DL links for that torrent file of Mao programs instead? Because while I would be oh so willing to DL the torrent file and spend days doing so, I do not want to be booted out of Japan just because I downloaded a torrent file haha (I've been scared of torrent-ing files since coming here but I'm just happy I get to watch all the TV shows with my favorite TJ skaters in them).

I agree and thanks again shiroKJ for the link. That's what I like about Mao in this video is the warmth and love of humanity (here children) and athleticism that she radiates and that shines through subtly at first but then suddenly bursts out powerfully in her performances.

Wow, that video made me all emotional, I got actual tears in my eyes. I never saw that footage of Mai watching Mao, that really did me in. Beautiful video. I just love her, what an inspiration.

Is this really what happens in Japan?

Torrents are not inherently wrong or illegal. In fact, that's not even why the technology was originally developed, and many legitimate companies today use torrents as an efficient way to distribute their data to their customers.

Disclaimer: I am in no way condoning the usage of torrent files that may be deemed illegal by a governing body. Please proceed at your own risk.

Thanks for your response. I also heard about Mai participating in a marathon, but I didn't hear anything about Mao in that regard. And I agree that she has a runner's/dancer's
legs. It's very shapely and proportioned like a dancer.

Thanks for the link, Minze2001. I love how Higuchi is inspired by Mao as well as Midori. I hope she masters the 3Axel and can become a top contender as I like her style much more than most of the up and coming Russians'.
 
I remember reading somewhere that Mao's mother was a gymnast and her father was a sky diver (or a sport related to the sky). Is that true? Athleticism seems to run in their family. Even though Mao said that she didn't do any training on the ice but in face she was still very dedicated to staying in shape.
Her skating to I've Got Rhythms in the baggy Santa Clause costume makes it seem like you can pick up a pair of skates from any store and go and replicate what she was doing. I also think she has the patience, gentleness and seriousness to become a skating coach.

In a recent interview Rafael Arutyunian among other things spoke about Mao as well.

Mao Asada was an interesting girl to work with as well.

Q: You once said about her `she only stops skating when she is asleep'.

AR: True. She would practice alone for 8 hours a day. I asked her once `why so much?' and she just said `I really love skating'. She came to Lake Arrowhead and rented a huge house. After a while she moved into a tiny house. I asked why. She said `Well, we are hardly there anyway. We leave the house 9am and come back 9pm. Michelle Kwan used to skate in a very old outfit. I once told her `can't you buy something new?' `No, it's like a second skin. Too comfortable'. Can you imagine that? It's not as if she or Mao had troubles with money. None at all. But they were so motivated by what they were doing they were not interested in anything else. Those are the true champions.

Thanks for the quote from Rafael, Alba. It really does show how Mao's true home is on the ice.

I believe I have already posted this article, but I am posting it again because I don't want to lose it and because it has so many fantastic quotes from Mao and Nobuo-sensei (Coach Sato) showing how their relationship grew over the years and Mao's feelings in the wake of Sochi and during the World Championships. My favorite quote from him is, "Mysteriously she has become someone who can produce something profound."

One beautiful quote from Mao in the article just after the Olympics shows her close relationship with Nobuo-sensie, “After the World Championships in March, if I retire from competitive skating or take a break, I’ll only have one month of training with Nobuo-sensei left and I do have feelings of loneliness. I want to enjoy this last period, each day by each day with sensei."

Mao: Having experienced the life without skating I found again that I love skating. Once I wondered if I'll never skate again in my life. Around October I came to feel like skating.

Telop: She started training again in October.

Mao: The cool wind on my cheek at the rink brought me back the memories (in the days when I used to train). With my jumps getting better I'm coming to think I can do more. I have stronger feelings of half-and-half (than before).

But I remember people putting so much hype on Yuna's 3Lz+3T as her signature jump. I think they overhyped that kind of to rival Mao's 3A+2T as it is undeniably untouchable and no other skater did it in that era.

iceberg Ah, Mao's 3a2t was glorious.. I remember watching her in awe and thinking how a ballerina-styled girl like her managed to do that crazy difficult jump. I'm just sad that not all people can appreciate her greatness. I remember one of the commies (I forgot whether it was Kurt of Scott) who said that 3lz3t is more difficult because a 3a2t "only" has 5,5 rotation.. *sigh*
