Mao Asada

the thing with Mao's 3A is that, it is a risky move, high reward and high risk. If Mao can do a good quality 3A like's say as good as Boyang's 4LZ, ISU will definitely reward her like they rewards Boyang.
Mao's 3A is absolutely not on the level of Boyang's 4LZ, mostly under-rotated, if you watch her practice unbiasedly. whereas Boyang's 4LZ, he can nail it 9 out of 10 times in practice, and once landed, absolutely clean.
do not wanna disturb any Mao fans here at all, just my observation of Mao's 3A in practice. take it or leave it all up to you guys.

edit: this could considered my repo of Mao's 3A condition in this competition.

I agree with you but it's important to consider that Mao is a woman trying an element that even some male skaters who certainly has much more powerful muscle and athletic figure than any top female skater can not land consistently, and women's 3-3 combos that are obviously not the same quality as men's 3-3 gets +3 GOE all the time! for instance Yuna's always quarter rotation underrotated combo and Evgenia's forced combo and many others. And I think judges tend to compare Mao's 3A to men's 3A because there's no lady they can compare with but it is totally unfair to do so. sure there was Midori who had 3Axels almost the same quality as men's but it's impossible for Mao and any other lady who has much taller and possibly heavier body to be able to land it like her.

^^ that is why I specifically used Boyang's 4Lutz as an example, which no other human being can do it, 3A at least a couple of ladies can do it well in history, as for your other acclaims about other ladies , I had no intention to discuss.

For me Mao's sp was magnificent and of a whole different class from everyone else! It's a shame that ISU judges have a special dislike for Mao in general lol. And people are always crying over how Russia is a land of home cooking but this competition shows that USA is just as bad, they almost gave a WR to Gracie Gold lmao. I hope Mao doesn't take this ridiculous competition seriously and remembers that ISU might try to pull her down but her country and fans will always love her skating.
Anyways I'm really happy to witness another great perfomance from Mao and I wanna see an 8 triple performance from her again so bad :love::love:

I will never get why PCS should "drop" when a skater falls. Isnt that TES stuff? Or just one of the five components? Why seperate the two when in the end they always relate to each other. I guess that's just the way it works, sadly.
Fot me, Mao was so underscored in PCS, it's incredible. Even her disaster of a SP in Sochi received 1,5 points more in PCS than what she got yesterday for a million times better performance. With the trend of rising PCS across the board, I dont get how hers can drop :(

I hope, she nails the free and is happy. She seemed okay after her SP so at least she's not devastated and enjoys her time.

She's my favorite by far! I love her whatever she does :)

Almost as absurd as Mao's 7th place in PCS is Mao being tied for 3rd place for her marvelous and magnetic step sequence, the only truly professional dancer in the competition in my opinion with the best skating skills, which is almost exactly the same deflated result she got for her incredible step sequence at Sochi. It's obvious that her scores are being deflated now and that they have been for a long time. It is based on empirically manipulated precedent. Mao is my favorite by far as well.

I'm actually not feeling that bad about the short actually. Yes, she fell on her triple-axel, but the rest of her program was so good. Her spins were all top-notch and her step sequence was obviously the best, no matter how it was scored. It was so beautiful, so intricate, so fluid, so quick, so perfect.

I think that even though she doesn't say so, it is difficult for her to get back into competition mode, and I think she is still struggling to find that mental state she needs to get into to find the zone.

AND, she is very, very lucky to have such a strong constitution. She is looking super fit and injury-free. Physically, she appears to be the strongest she's ever been. And that's great because she has the physical reserve to work out some issues she still has with jumps, which she has steadily been resolving, slowly but surely. She still has two full years!

It's okay if Mao doesn't win this time. It's time for her to make mistakes so she doesn't make them at a more crucial time.

I enjoy watching her no matter what. She is so full of joy and energy that I can ignore technical mistakes, which doesn't happen to me for many skaters. :)

silenceisgolden posted the following information:
It was reported that according to Mr. Sato, Mao was not able to do enough practice,
since she felt uncomfortable in her left knee.
We don't know if it's alright now or not ...

I hope Mao recovers from her injury and skates great tomorrow.

scoring aside, Mao was just so beautiful! I love her hair style :)
wish her all the best in the LP.

Oh no!! But the injury must have occured few months/weeks ago and she must be recovered or nearly recovered now. She looked to be in fine form and her skating didn't reflect that she was injured. Or at least I hope that Mao is not risking further injuring herself by skating at Worlds. I would hate to think that Mao is pushing through an injury.

When I saw her triple toe-loop combination, I did wonder why it wasn't better rotated and so maybe she did not have time to practice her toe loop combo that much. And we haven't seen enough of her lutz attempts to see how well it's doing, but it may be that she had to stop practicing her lutz temporarily as well....

In any case, I am cheering whole-heartedly for Mao!

This photo from the beginning pose of Mao's SP is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen of Mao. So glamorous! Come on Mao, just go out and do your jumps in your LP like you have so many times in practice and in warmup.

Gorgeous long program. What a great end to her year, with a well deserved standing ovation. The ladies event was fantastic.
