From Japan, so far the cast for Mao's 2017 The Ice includes: Mao Asada, Daisuke Takahashi, Jeffrey Buttle, Mirai Nagasu, Mai Asada, Kozuka Takahiko, Takahito Mura, Akiki Suzuki, Adelina Sotnikova, Nobunari Oda, Shoma Uno, Pang / Tong, Weaver and Poje and Kanako Murakami who will only be skating in the Osaka show because she will be doing the PIW show and can't make it to the Nagoya shows).

I'm sure it will be a great show. No word yet on Mao's trip to Canada.

Rachmaninov Elegie and Lara Fabian song "wind beneath my wings". I didn't know this song and listened to it and I think it is so unremarkable. Not bad but not good either. So we'll see. I am sure Mao will be able to still make it fantastic.

Thanks for the information, daphenexa. I'm really glad that Mao is skating to Rachmaninov again. It brings back so many wonderful memories of her skating to Bells of Moscow and Rachmaninov's Second Concerto. And I think in spirit Mao shares a lot with Rachmaninov because they are both really powerful at moving my emotions deeply and inspiring a passionate and transcendent sense of beauty.

Thanks for the information, daphenexa. But, I disagree. I like Rachmaninoff's Elegy a lot and am glad Mao chose it because I hadn't heard it before.

OK. I understand better now, so I edited my comment. I like the Rachmaninov much better as well. But, I think that is the best version of the song I have heard. I don't know if I should mention this, but I thought of Mao's mother as I heard the words and I started to like it a lot more.

yes maybe it has a personal meaning for Mao choosing it... anyways I am sure she will do a great program to it. This is Mao we are talking about, she could skate to whale sounds and do a masterpiece.

When I think about the lyrics, I think it can be a tribute to her sister Mai, who's stood behind her through everything and has been the rock in her life.

It is one of those songs that make me cringe because it's so overplayed. Its recent outing at the Oscars' In Memoriam segment a few years ago brought the cringe factor through the roof. But I'm pretty certain I will cry my eyes out anyway when I see Mao skate a heartfelt and beautiful program to it!
