Marin Honda

This is second hand, and I can't vouch for it... but I heard from some Japanese people that Fuji TV were mean to her during interview. That she was basically happy about her performance... but then the interviewer was repeatedly saying stuff like "you were only 2nd. You said you would win, but you didn't. You lost"... until eventually she cried, and apologised for not winning.

I don't know if anyone else can verify if this is true?

I'm already mad at Fuji TV for blocking youtube videos in regions where they do not own the rights... but if this is true, I'm 10x madder. Tabloid pressure tactics, against a child? Because "Marin in tears" generates more clicks and views for them? Did they really stoop so disgustingly low? I hope not.

Regardless - Marin has nothing to apologise for. She gave her best, and nobody can ask for more than that!

 WTH can anyone confirm or deny this?!?!?!!

I want to say congratulations to Marin!! :) I'm very impress with her, she was able to skate clean last worlds and now she skated clean again, I really hope she will keep doing this in the future, i! I'm curious to see how much she will grow in the following years, wish the best for her:)

Can we send petition to Fuji tivi? :palmf: But we are such a small numbers, they won't care.

I just want to pop up there to show my respect and admiration or Marin and her work, progress and poise shown at Junior Worlds recently...
Totally agree with all you've written, I'd also accentuate her beautiful hands, she uses them in most charming way. :luv17:

I never get why in a country like Japan Fuji has to have such monopoly, they have all the ISU championships broadcasting rights, tons of people complaining about them for years but they still hold the right until 2027 if I am not mistaken. They are very cheap and yellow.. after 4cc they made Hanyu apologize as well but his apologize was pretty ironical I'd say even sarcastic.. now this poor child :dev2:

:eeking: they outright demanded an apology??

I'm just ................... :palmf:

Poor Marin. She needs to stand up for herself against these losers

2-3 years ago Fuji reporter asked Yuzuru "why do you wear eyeglasses do you have poor eyesight?" he answered "does it make any difference for my performance " .... they are impossible.. and remember last year ugly gossip about him getting married started from them.

I listened to her interview again. She burst out crying after talking about her performances without any mistakes. The TV reporter was saying nothing to offense her. Actually, the reporter's last question before Marin's crying, was about the music for the next season. She let her talk, and Marin kept talking about how she chose the music for next season's SP that very morning, about moving to seniors, hopes for next Olympics, her last performances as a junior...without any mistakes... then she burst out crying.
The reporter congratulated Marin again for the silver medal and told her that her performances definitely reached the heart of her fans.

That was all.

Yeah. Hanyu's adult, can see through the BS and stand up for himself, but treating a sensitive teen this way? I used to think that Marin is too high-strung for her own good and takes defeat too hard. Now that she was actually happy about her performance and not minding coming in second, she's punished for it? Dammit, that's no way to raise confident, pressure-resistant competitors, that's the way to destroy self-confidence. I hope someone will have a talk with Marin an explain that she has nothing to feel badly about.

Hmmm. the plot thickens.

On the other hand, it's really easy to edit something out, and naturally the tv wouldn't show forcing a reaction.

What was the source of that information?

:rolleye: yeah Fuji Tivi seems like using those trick to attract views. I remember that whole "fiancee fiasco". They broadcasted news from famous tabloid magazine. I remember watching the video news. :sarcasm: Yuzuru got very mad about that too.

"That information"... which one?

The first one, about Marin being pressured. YesWay said she'd heard it second hand, do we know anything more? I don't know for what purpose anyone would make up a rummor like that though.

NO, we don't know anything more but we already have almost two pages of infuriated reactions, gossip, small talks about another skater on Marin's fan page. Too bad.

Congrats to Marin! Beautiful performances and beautiful skater!

As for Fuji TV...:curse: We don't know whether the story of the reporter being mean and pressuring is true yet, but either way they've already made me angry with the video blocking. It's truly annoying now.

Awesome performance by Marin!

I would have had her first, but I admit Alina's content was crazy so I cannot deny her high technical score was deserved. I would have scored Marin some points higher on PCs but, anyway, amazing job!

Marin, be happy and proud of yourself! We are proud of you! :hap10:

The best anyone can do is perform all their planned elements and execute them cleanly, and she did. After that it is out of your control. I am sure that those close to her have praised her so she can feel the joy of her achievement....and during the summer shows she will get advice and support from the older current and former stars as well.

I didn't get that feeling at all. They asked her feelings as a first question, she basically said "it's a complex feeling", and the interviewer led her to elaborate. Not mean at all, she was just doing her job.

Marin herself said after her short that, if she skated her free flawlessly, she could win. Well, she did, yet she didn't. She met the goals that were within her reach, but couldn't reach the ones that were out of her control. She did her best, but, despite her opinion of herself, her best wasn't good enough. A perfectly legitimate reaction from Marin, and a perfectly reasonable line of questioning by the interview.

The question is, what does she do now? Does she double down on her style of skating, rushing a quad into her program to bridge the gap? Or does she turn to the dark side and adopt the Russian Way of gaming the system?
