Marin Honda

there is speculation that she could be there for choreography with Benoit Richaud. Hope it's not true. Can't stand his work
I only know him from Mai's Libertango which I liked very much. It seems early for choreo, last year choreos started in May and Benoit is a risky choice. Hamada has always chosen more experienced choreographers for her. But if shes really working with him, I guess she already has a solid program concept in mind. Perhaps she is going to tango and nobody is stopping her.

He did Kaori's Amelie FS and Bradie's Cinderella's FS both atrocious programs. I like Mai very much but i don't think the libertango was a good fit for her and the choreography was generic but i agree it wasn't bad like the two other programs i cited.

Anyway there's a greater chance Marin is in Lakewood for technical advice. Many skaters go to Raf to fix their jump technique.

I was watching Terrace House (Netflix Japanese reality show) and they mentioned Honda. I can't say which episode was it because I've been binge watching the show so I don't know.
They actually mentioned her sister and then they say "oh, we should have her on the show some time" but I don't know if they were talking about her sister or Marin herself. They talked about them very sweetly.
I had no idea Marin was that famous. I mean, I'm always reading about how she gets a lot of media attention(and she loves it) but I wasn't expecting it.
It was a cool coincidence to be watching something that had 0 connection to figure skating and then hear about Marin. :)

Anyway, I thought I'd share this here(maybe someone already did? oh, well).
And I recommend the show, it is very interesting from a western point of view, the culture is SO different, completely different. :eeking:

Terrace House is my guilty pleasure! My favorite thing about the show is that it provides a glimpse into Japanese culture and dating norms.

Tsl is saying Marin is going full time in Lakewood and will leave Kansai Uni. They sound sure about it. I hope we get an official announcement soon.

Omg, I hope this is true. It would mean that she still has the determination and knows exactly what she needs.

Aww I was hoping that Marin would train with Brian Orser who's better at developing total package skaters. Hopefully this coaching change will produce a more disciplined training regimen so that she'll shine in the next season.

I don't know what to say. Marin has good SS for a skater her age and the "it" factor, but not the jumps, and perhaps not the most suitable mentality. Raf can help her with the jumps, but I fear her SS might stagnate. Maybe it'll turn out to be a Mao Asada situation.

I wish she chose a different coach but nonetheless I am proud that she's taking matters into her own hands and that she's determined to improve her jumps.

Will they help her fixing her jumps? She has a bad habit of turning her shoulders before her legs.

Can someone please translate what she's talking about? :sad21: https://twitter.com/marin_channel/status/979356492338937856

Summary: She has loved skating since she
was little. Success came easily, but then she fell behind. Her stated goals were mere lip service. She is not frustrated about not making Olympic team, it's more that she can't comprehend her own feelings.

What is supporting her during this painful time? Her family. Although she may not be in the position of a leader she will work hard not to let down her younger sisters.

Thank you so much  She's having a hard time right now but I hope she will be able to go through it all  I'm not sure about how she would fit with Raf if it's true she's going to train there but I'll be glad that she's trying to fight her weaknesses and take this big step.

Her SS is already better than 95% of the field. I hope Raf can help with her jumps a bit but like everyone else I am weary and nervous.

I think changing the environment is great news, I'd also like to know what has she decided on her toe problem. Is she going to operate it or rather try to correct it through rehab.
