Nice to see Marin look happy and content after the free skate. I guess she knows she is on a good way regarding the jumps. One can tell that she makes an effort to jump bigger and stop relying on fast rotation. There are some transitional problems of course, but if she keeps improving like after Skate America, she’ll get there sooner or later.

It’s especially funny that her SS was scored as her weakest component by some margin in the SP . And now that Evgenia isn’t doing a gazillion transistions anymore, it becomes very clear who has the better SS ....

Loved loved both programs, just re-watched LP with TAT commentary - she seemed to be genuinely moved by Marin's performance:
'she listens to the music with her soul' and such
I might watch again and write down what else she said

I fell in love with Marin at IdF. Her short program was already one of my favorites of the season, but she has really come into her own over the past few weeks. It looks like the coaching change is starting to pay off, and with greater consistency she will finally start getting the PCS she deserves. I can’t wait to see her at Nationals, and I have high hopes for her development in seasons to come.

Marin Honda is a joy to watch. I am a fan of artistic skating and if anyone can do that well, she can. She has fabulous lines and movements. Simply beautiful. I'd rather watch someone like her than the jumping machines.

It’s always obvious who TAT likes. I suspect that in her mind, the skater has to have lovely lines, posture and that all important X factor. Look at TAT’s old faves - Shizuka Arakawa, Sasha Cohen, Mao Asada and even grudgingly Zhenya Med. Their real deal was their X factor star quality which really can’t be trained. Marin has that. I always wonder what might have been if Eteri can have Marin under her wings - you will get the toughest competitor with all the natural talents and X factor to wow everyone.

RAF said in a recent interview that communication with Marin is still in progress– he’s not sure if she’s pretending to understand him or she’s choosing to just not listen to him sometimes. He said that screaming and cursing isn’t allowed and also doesn’t really work so it’s just something they have to work on together.

It sounds like he is a little frustrated but I think the work they’ve done together is typical for a new coach. Just the problem seems to be communication. I know when learning a new language sometimes you get it...but you also don’t all at the same time. And you don’t want to keep asking people to repeat themselves. In comparison it sounds like he is able to criticize Eunsoo and give her direction in a way that she understands than he is for Marin because of the language barrier.

Either way I feel like she is getting more confident as the season progresses and I hope she has clean skates at Nationals. She seems to be enjoying her programs

I do think that when RAF said “She’s a princess” he meant it in a good way. Of course it’s hard to tell from text...first time I read it I thought it was a negative. But having read and watched many Raf interviews, that’s not how he talks about his own skaters. He is always straightforward. If it were a bad thing I think he would have elaborated

What are the chances Marin is given two GP slots next year? I feel like Narin has it in her to improve even after what happened at nationals.

We'll see her standings after the season. She could be given a spot for the spring events. I highly doubt jsf will try to push her with that 15th placement and there's talk that they disapprove her coach change.
