If Deanna finds an American partner and switches back to representing the USA, I have no problam with that. Same with Jean-Luc Baker. I wish he was still skating for the US, but I'm so happy he's well enough to be a competitive ice dancer again, I'll root for him and Marjorie. Though I'll miss his choreography for teams like Green/Parsons.

I am really not understanding why people are even discussing changes of national representation in figure skating, especially pairs.
Sorry, it's beyond my intellectual and emotional capacity.
Why aren't people able to just let others follow their own path without having to question it or become judgmental about it ?
I wish Deanna all the best. Gosh I wish she claimed Italian citizenship now and represented a third country just for the pearl clutching ladies to have a major fit.

In the interest of avoiding an unseemly dispute, I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you are not writing about me here. I've not done any pearl clutching nor am I a lady. I'm a man who has shared my opinion on a forum that exists for fans to share their opinions. I've even conceded that mine might be the minority view, but I'm sticking with it - and I'm not the one who seems to need a fainting couch when confronted with an opposing viewpoint.

And, for the record, I really do not care one iota if Deanna skates for Italy or any other federation that's willing to take her, so long as it's not mine. I'll make fun of it, of course, but that's my prerogative.

I wish Maxime well. He was a wonderful addition to the canadian skating landscape. I am grateful he got to an olymics though it is unfortunate his partner Deanna seemed to be hanging on with her finger tips. to get there. I wished andhoped for a bronze for them. I appreciate he felt it was time to m ove on. I can only imagine how hard that decision might be with limited "pro/money making" opportuniities in respect to skating shows and pro competitions. I have no idea how a lot of the skaters or athletes do it as they head into their mid 30's. Unless you are a bbig star it has to be hard financially. Or maybe they are funded much better thanI thought. In respect to the issue of loyalty and allegiance Iguess more of a Deanna issue well I admit I don't really like people switchig countries for the sake of olympic dreams and medals but it is well accepted. Look at the entire Reed family, Savchenko, Russian skaterrs moving to other "russian" related nations to compete -all in thename ofopportunities to compete and sometimes funding.

She DID represent America. And she left the instant it became inconvenient to continue representing USA.

I don’t think that’s true. Although she and her partner were placing at Nationals they weren’t getting assignments IIRC. And word on the street was USFS wasn’t supportive of her/their skating.

I'm fine with her decision to leave to skate for Canada. As I said, I'm a fan. I'm not fine with a decision to return.

I know many don't mind the federation hopping and the continual shift in loyalties. I'm not one of them. And we don't have to agree on that - it's fine, but I'm not changing my mind. If an athlete wants to represent America, then I'm behind them. They want to leave, then leave. But don't come back.
