Congrats to both for coming back after disappointing short programs to do well in the long. Whatever questions about the judging I might have, both these skaters deserved big kudos for turning it around in their LPs.

I think that it's great when a askater can come back from sixth or lower to win. That's where sasha always fell short. she won the short, but let others overtake her in the long. If you can't skate both cleanly, do a good long.

Back to the topic- every skater smiles at least once in a while. For some it's genuine, yet for others it's part of the routine. Alyssa's and Emily's fall into the genuine category (except during bad performances, of course). Kimmie's, too, but off the ice.

And some see it one way and other see it another way.

I think Alissa smiles because that's what she's been trained to do, and the smile is there, bad skate or good skate. Emily's smile is there because that's her gig. She was smiling her face off when she was popping jumps in the GP, and she smiled while falling on her butt at Nationals.

Genuine? Not really. For both of them, it's habit. It's what they do when they are on the ice.

ITA! I think it is habit a large amount of the time, and all skaters occasionally let out the "real smile" when they are really happy (but most are put on). Other wise it is a "courtesy / point getting" smile. Kimmie's IMO is not a good "faker" as of yet, she has a "coy" smile that is present when she is doing well and a open mouth that shows some teeth when she is "putting one on." I think the pencil technique should start being practiced so she can really feel her checks getting the mussel pull necessary, then it is "recall" for them and she won't need to focus so much. Her fingers are also still lacking in expression which I think is enhancing the impression of "airplane arms." Also I wish she would look at Taylor Firth and Melissa Bula...... (sp) and see how they are "working" those exspressions. Look at Taylor in her SP spiral. It isn't the smile either, it is that look of "yah, I am good, I am pleased" and she looks at the judges with a slight nod of the head and pursed lips. Yah sold! And she is 15:eek: . Kimmie can get that too IMO. Her "coy smile" should be her look when not giving the full one - not the only one. JMO

I think there is too much "assumption" of it is "'spose to be" natural. But With Sasha and Alissa's examples of a fan-frickin-tastic smile  that is Obviously "put on," there should be more realization that a "good FULL smile" can be learned.

I think Kimmie lets loose with a real smile when the skate is going well and she's really into it. We saw a real smile from her in the last 1/3 of her 4CC program because she began to let it all hang out (same thing at 2006 Worlds).

That's why she Kimmie got higher PCS scores at 4CC than she did at Nationals. At Nationals, she was up tight and the only real smile was the smile of relief when the FS was over.

WOW! Kimmie Kimmie Kimmie! I've never been a fan of hers ever. I think she is a talented jumper but on the skating establishment's side i felt she was always cold, not musical enough, too stiff, bad posture, airplane arms etc!

But as i watched the 4cc FS i was very impressed! This girl is working really hard and she is going to fight for her World Title! She doesn't feel pressure in her nerves, she is such a staunch and lovely competitor! Her style is growing on me, you can see she really feels the music now, her choreography now goes with the music! I wish her the best!

On the Worlds side! I think Yu-Na is the best right now!

Do we really need to use the word LOATHE? How very small of you.

Three cheers for Kimmie and Emily!! To all the ladies, have a great Worlds.

I really like Emily! But congrats to all the winners. I'm hoping to see great performances during Worlds in all disciplines.

I've waited pretty long after the fact to throw my opinions in here but, once again, I think Emily Hughes was pretty much robbed.

Kimmie keeps getting full credit for her underrotated Triple/Triples. The Code of Points clearly needs to credit an underrotated Triple as being worth the average of whatever the Double and Triple of that jump are worth. For example...Double Toeloop is worth 1.3 and Triple Toeloop is worth 4.0. An underrotated Triple Toeloop should be worth 2.65 points.

As of right now the tech specialist has to call an underrotated jump as either a Double or a Triple and neither of those calls is fair, as it does not accurately reflect what the skater did on the ice.
