Men's competition has started!!

Iam going to go with preaubert and Chan in the top two with Kevin third. I think that Preaubert and Chan have a good chance of making the final...Varner has a too much ground to make up. He is too many points behind!!

Patrick Chan has moved into first place

1 Patrick CHAN CAN 70.89 37.74 33.15 6.85 6.50 6.70 6.60 6.50 0.00 #8

yayy!

Verner must have skated really bad - he has the lowest TES out of all the competitors...

I think the first four have all a good chance to win, I just hope that Mr. Voronov can stay consistent in the free. (I mean consistent and good - you can also be consistent and bad...)
Yeah he was so good at worlds last year, to bad he hasn't lived up to that yet.

yayy!

Yeah he was so good at worlds last year, to bad he hasn't lived up to that yet.

He was good in the long at worlds, when he was ninth after the short and noone was expecting anything of him anymore. Same with the short at Europeans; then he made mistakes in the long, when he was ahead of Joubert and all eyes were on him. I think ae9177's right; he's got a problem handling pressure(this could make NHK very interesting indeed!) Hopefully being written off for this competition will help him deliver a good long.
VDP's going to win this competition, I just know it. :scowl:

Yeah, go Patrick! He's amazing and has a great chance for a medal here - hopefully Gold! He'll have to out-skate Alban in France though, and Preaubert is often consistent with his jumps. That's really the best thing Alban has to offer because his skating skills, choreography, spins, etc. are nothing like the top guys, which is why he's best doing silly and goofy programs like Adams Family.

And that's a real bummer for Verner. He has lots of pressure on him this season as a #4 from the previous Worlds, and he's not living up to it yet. I'm not sure he's consistent or mature enough yet to be on the Worlds podium.

Just watched Voronov, I cannot believe he skated I though he was going to withdraw. How does these Russian kids get better so quickly (health-wise)? First Andrei and then Voronov. And he did so well, that axel was gorgeous!
And there's always a wonderful bonus to see Urmanov  especially looking as happy as he was.

Interesting with the original predictions, VDP didn't get all that much. Now, he's changed a lot of minds. Those quads get to the judges. Did he do one? I would like to see Kevin get to the finals but that LP costume might put those judges off.

That costume and choreography of Alben will also put judges off, but he is the hometown boy now.

We may be looking at the 2010 Oly Champ with Chan who keeps rolling along. The kid is good and he is young enough to learn more tricks. I'd like to see him in the Finals too. How does he have to place here to get enough points?

Joe

Good for Chan. This type of showing is amazing for someone so young. I hope he can win, even thogh he'll be in tough in the free. Does anyone know what happened to Mabee? He's really far down, and it's not like him to be lower that Chan, especially by this much.

He may prove to be a bit of a flash in the pan. I like him, and he improved by leaps and bounds last year, extremely impressive. However his 4th place at Worlds was a shock to most. I am not sure how realistic it is to see him holding that ranking this year, let alone bettering it with Joubert, Takahashi, Lambiel ranked over him (even if Lambiel is iffy himself at the moment) and people like Oda, Lysacek, Weir, even Buttle behind him.

I agree. I think the reason he has a good chance to win this event is because it is in France. Note he even had the highest PCS of any man, that probably would only happen in France, somewhere else his PCS would probably be lower then Chan even for a clean skate. Home court advantage is there for skaters potentialy even under COP.

I just finished Chan's performance. He is so secure about his jumps and he looks so much experienced than (what I imagine) he is. Bad luck about the lutz, he hesitated in the last minute and sort of re-arranged his take off and didn't work, but it was still lovely.

I don't know exactly but I imagine that a gold or silver will assure him the finals while with bronze, he'll still have to wait for CoR for Jeff and Stephane.

I cannot be neutral towards Preaubert, I just don't like his skating at all, though it IS entertaining to watch his team on the sides jumping along with him ;) . Had a little problem landing that axel.

No, he didn't (or so I thought). He's saving them for that huge comeback later today (or tomorrow, for some ppl).

Poor Kevin. How badly he is treated.

While I think Chan is a better skater now, I still want kevin in the Finals because he's been at this for years. We used to rave about him spotting his air turns.

Finish watching Kevin and Tomas' SP.

Kevin used to be faster right? I remember him faster but now it's like he is trying to check every element that he goes so slow into them, those footwork sequences took ages to finish them. I do hope he does better tomorrow, he is one of the skaters I'm cheering for.

Tomas, oh Tomas....I have to say the program is good and he is so so fast now. He seems to have lost a bunch of weight, I mean last year at Worlds he looked fit and now he looks thin. That combo jump was a disaster and such a bad luck with the luzt. I don't know if he did a 2a or a 3a. But his step sequences were great, and as I say to me it looked like a good program. Like Kevin, I hope he does great tomorrow.
