Men's Long Program

Good for Voronov. 4 plus 8 = 12, so Russia will have 3 Men go to Europeans. Now they have to try to get from 1 men to 2 men for Worlds, crucial that they do that, and I think Voronov can pull it off if he skates like this again.

Wow!!!!!!!! So happy for Tomas! Congratulations! It's good that Lambiel and Joubert are still on the podium.:) Now Tomas added into the final battle for this year's World.

Joubert is not fully recovered yet. (He looked tired, according to the report.) Lambiel's performances are not steady. Takahashi is fine. Verner is a new force in both artistic and technical areas, but might be inconsistant. Lysacek is close behind Verner, but more consistant. Weir has decided to add a quad in his LP, and his performance is yet to be seen. Chan will likely finish in top 8. And Battle, and Van de Perren ... The men's skating is so interesting this year.

The men's skating is interesting this year only because one never knows who's going to win. But otherwise the Europeans were a splatfest and not very impressive.
After Preubert and Ponsero skated (and fell and fell and fell) I just wished the guys wouldn't have to torture themselves with quads and 3A.
All the marks are exteremly high but this generousity is not going to happen at Worlds.
IMO, the most overmarked was Kevind van der Perren who is the slowest skater I have ever seen (and because of this, his program looked cringeworthy) and yet received very good marks. Why?
Anyhow I am happy for Verner who had a very entertaining SP and a good LP . Congrats

How come kristoffer berntssons PCS went from about 5.4 in the short to 6.8 in the long program? I would think a relatively clean (his sp) program would get higher PCS than a program with a lot of mistakes.. or were the judges just very generous on the thursday night?

Triple axel or none, Stephane Lambiel is the most beautiful male skater I've seen!

Like any sport and particularly figure skating, one game or one competition is NOT the defining claim to the 'best'.

With an exceptional skate in last year's Worlds, Tomas is now confirming he is a top contender, imo. However, we must look for consistencies in worlds this year and in future competitions.

Joe

I'm all over the place with this comp --- Lambiel has got to learn some of the 'rule basics' to not repeat dumb errors

Yeah and I also hope the judges will do the same... and read "rule basics"

Where can I find a copy of "rule basics"?

Joe

:laugh: Seriously, I want a copy too! The ISU rule book from their official site is 184 pages. What qualifies as a "basic" rule and what doesn't? Does a condensed copy exist? ;):p

Judging in figure skating will never be viewed as fair by all spectators since so much of the judging is based on personal subjective perception. If a judge wanted to cheat, he/she could do it by taking or not taking the proper deductions on the Grades of Execution or by manipulating the PCS scores. I've definitely seen some shady judging on both the GOE and the PCS on protocols. It's a very fishy thing to see one judge take a -2 on an element and another judge give a +1 or a 0 for the same element. Since the judges are anonymous, accountability is thrown out the window and cheating is easy for those who do so. I feel bad for the poor skaters should the sekret computer randomly select the skores of the judges who choose or are pressured to cheat. :(

He could do nothing but stroke and spin and he'd win in my book. Love him-- and the headless spin that closes his LP proves why it is called "headless."

I like Tomas fine- and he is certainly easy on the eyes. But he will have to improve monumentally in both technical and artistry to have any lasting impact.

Museksk8r, I frankly find it hard to believe in a conspiracy that would favor Werner who represents a relatively unimportant federation. I guess one could make an argument that the judges were marking down Lambiel in the anticipation that Joubert would have a strong showing, but it sounds a little far fetched to me given Joubert's rather unimpressive SP performance.

The gold medal of verner it's very fair. But, if Lambiel, Joubert and Verner had a perfect performances, the results would be very diferent.

In my opinion, joubert had a very difficult program in techinical elements, in the other side, lambiel it's de skater with best presentation scores. It's hard to say, but for me, Brian Joubert have a best free program.

But, they failed in free skate, and verner wins.

In the worlds, if all doing weel, i think the positions will be

1º Brian Joubert
2º Lambiel
5º Verner

What? I don't think there is a conspiracy theory with the results from Euros. I never said Verner should not have won Europeans. I like Tomas and Stephane and I think it was fair for Tomas to win Euros. I'm happy for him!

I was responding to cristina and my comment was just a general response about figure skating judging. Basically, I was saying there is always going to be controversy among fans of the sport with judging because it is subjective and yes, politics do play a part in it. I'm pleased with the results from Europeans though. If only Stephane had skated a better SP, things might have turned out differently, but he didn't deliver in the short and suffered because of that. I hope both Stephane and Tomas skate great at Worlds! :)
