Men's Short Program Start Order Up

Personally, I think Chengjiang Li was scored too low, or at least placed to low... his program was amazing. Although, his spins obviously aren't as good as Sandhu's, but there was no mistakes on them either and his jumps were incredible. It really was a spectacular skate. Anyways, that's my only complaint for now... I'll wait until long programs results for that LOL

emanuel did the quad-tripple and he didnt pop the tripple axle.....he fell on the lutz but at least he didnt pop it also the commentators said that he has a great program that really reaches out to the audience and that he has excellent footwork!:chorus:

Dont know why some people are hating on Oda. He is a charismatic skater: his jumps looks great in air and he lands them very softly, good fast spin, plus he is very expressive and sells his sp and lp very well. I dont think he is juniorish looking its just a different style. If he learns the quad i think he can contend for gold. But for now i think he could very well earn a silver but mostly likely bronze medal in this competition.

I'm with you here.. Oda isn't my favorite but I find his skating at least "interesting" than Evan Lysacek's. His style reminds me of that of Scott Hamilton. I think Oda has a great future ahead of him.

I thought Li may have been judged a little low...but, I was so happy to see such a great skate from him. Jumps were on and wonderful, his spins seemed good and he had a kind of flowy-soft approach to the program, it was nice.

I thought Oda was fabulous...a real performer. Great jumps, although no quad. His spins looked fast and centered from tv, but I can't say what the levels were. I suspect his footwork may have been easier than the other top guys, and maybe fewer transitions than Buttle or Weir or Sandu, but he totally sold it. I think he is going to be a blast to watch in the long and more to the point, in seasons to come.

Sandu really rocked; he did do that slow entry into the axel, but he nailed it and it was so energizing to see him complete that jump. He did fall, and I was cursing, but the program held together and you could really see his amazing skill in footwork, choreo, presentation.

I'm not too sure about Weir's marks -- need to look again, but I don't think he was as on as usual with this short. Jumps were there sans quad, but the axel is just such a thing of beauty and his triple triple so nice....i think he had a little flub on his last jump (a flip?), and he had trouble on his last spin but saved it nicely. I love this guy, but I announced to myself last night that what I want is for him to keep this short next year and put the quad in; and do a really energetic long program with a quad combo and just show the world he can dominate...i feel now that his attention to detail and perfect execution, while laudable, is holding him back from the next level of Plushy like competition.

Anyway, I guess I have to see Matt live to understand why his PCS, especially transitions and choreo, are lower than I think they should be....but I thought he had a lovely skate....

For Jeff Buttle, he did not fell twice like someone said here, he had a extra turn on the ice on the triple axel, he started like usually with the combo triple triple which he did very well, but even at the start of this program, on center ice, camera on him before he started skating, one thing I noticed was that he was quite pale and looked to me quite tired and not to say sick...

That would be me that said he fell twice. I missed the first half of his program and I was only going by what Barb and Paul were saying on CBC. They said 2 mistakes so I was just assuming it had been a fall...I started watching just before he fell on the triple lutz.

I thought the judging was right. Joubert is not a skater I like by any means but he skated the cleanest program with the most conviction and deservedly was 1st. Oda was great with no quad. Sandhu was awesome except for the one fall. Lambiel had two obvious mistakes and was slow and sluggish, 4th was right for him. All of the skaters were judged pretty well. For once I agreed with the judging.

I believe he generally gets Levels 3 and 4 on his spins (4 for the spins that include his pancake position) and Level 2 on his footwork sections.

I came back from fencing last night all ready to sit and watch the skating and Eurosport was down!!!! The *ONLY* channel of all the channels that was down!!!! Did any other British Eurosport people have the same problem or was it just me!!

Sounds like I missed a corker of a night too!!!

Jeffrey Buttle (CAN) landed a triple flip-triple toeloop combination but turned out on his triple Axel and fell on his triple Lutz to finish fourth at 107.78 points. His teammate Emanuel Sandhu completed a big quadruple-triple toeloop combination and a triple Axel as well as strong spins and steps in his exciting Tango program, but he, too, missed the triple Lutz. Sandhu was still second in the Short Program with a segment score of 78.41 points. The Canadian has 107.36 points so far and is currently ranked fifth. US Champion Johnny Weir put out a triple Axel, triple Lutz-triple toeloop and triple flip in his lyrical routine to “The Swan”, but his combination spin was wobbly. He came in sixth at 106.91 points.

Reigning World bronze medallist Evan Lysacek (USA) stepped out of his triple Lutz and subsequently didn’t credit for a combination. He is in seventh place (105.25 points).

What the heck is wrong with this judging? A wobbly combo spin for Weir should not have been that severely dinged vs. 2 falls by Buttle and 1 fall by Sandhu. And for Oda to outscore a technically clean (save for the spin) Johnny is just beyond me, Oda is so clunky and junior-ish (look at his pimpled face, it screams AWKWARD, and he's almost as old as the far more elegant Daisuke).
I think Evan (still dealing with a respiratory infection) and Jeff are too tired and weak since Turino. I just don't see either one of them outskating Lambiel and, God forbid, Oda at this time. As for Brian, he can either be clean (like 06 French Nationals and 05 Skate America), his last 2 truly clean FS, or he'll implode like in Torino and 06 Europeans.
I think we'll see the same results for the Americans as in Torino, just out of the medals.

Buttle didn't fall twice, he fell once. On his asss once. Weir looked lifeless and uninspired. He claims to have a sore back, just an excuse in my opinion. At least Jeff owned up to falling on the lutz instead of blaming it on something.

Oda had passion and conviction and sold the program. As did Sandhu and Joubert.

The judging was right.

Actually, I think he did take the mandatory 2 point pimple deduction (ISU judging system rule #51419.)

But even so his clean, entertaining and technically packed program put him ahead of weaker efforts by Weir, Buttle, Lysacek and the rest.

For those of us who have never given up on Brian Joubert, yesterday was fantastic. He is SO on when he's on, LOL!!!

Gettin' on a big old jet-airliner right now to make it up to Calgary in time to see his free skate.....fingers crossed...fingers crossed.....Sure - he's 3rd overall, but the scores are pretty tight - going to be an interesting fight tomorrow!

He's pretty good, with solid jumps and sometimes a quad (!), but not nearly strong enough with the PCS. In comparison to Weir and Lysacek, his spins and footwork are easy and his skating is terribly terribly slow. I think he had a total of 181 or so at the 4CC this year, and that won't come close to challenging Johnny or Evan.

I am surprised that all the people who want to pick on Oda haven't mentioned the true reason why he needs a big, fat deduction. What is his costume trying to say?

I would guess Little Lord Fauntleroy, but did LLF ever wear a fluffy swan's down shirtfront and a big velvet bow in back?
