How did Oda get higher marks than Johnny after falling on 3A and popping the 3f???? Johnny's only mistake was doubling the 3 flip- am I reading this correct?

I don't think it's a jinx, I think he just overtrained himself.

The Japanese media put a very heavy pressure on him to land the quad - in every single interview during the last two weeks they were bothering him to try it. He landed his very first not underrotated quads in the practices before NHK and was planning to add a quad during the Nationals, but after all the quad mania he promised to try it at the GPF.

That's two weeks worth of recovering from the cold and right leg injury, giving interviews, taking part in a Nanda! show, press conferences AND undergoing anintesive training to get the quad consistent. I think it was a bit too much.

I hope he recovers soon.

I think his scores are little fishy also. I don't know about TEs but his PCs seem to have gotten a little boost.

I am very distressed for Johnny and keep thinking it has to do with his trying to skate in an alien macho style. He's losing presentation points and is not skating "his way." (How ironic that "My Way" - "the only way," as he put it to Kurt B - was his skate at Marshall's last week.)

But Daisuke could still win. Great job! But if not - well, Joubert is fine too.

Johnny is out of the mix. With Lambiel still up there, Joubert revived, Oda and Takahashi coming into their own, and Lysacek consistent and solid there isnt room for Weir to be a real contender anymore.

I agree that Takahashi's scores were a bit bloated at NHK (as I had mentioned in Men's SP thread) but not enough to make such a big deal out of it. Moreover, As Anna reported, Takahashi lost some GoEs on the "toe-pick" landings of his jumps.

Takahashi aside, I don't feel it's allright to throw all Japanese skaters in one bag. Check out Mao's scores at GPF (0.16 points of difference). Also Oda's scores at SA were only a bit lower than at NHK - he had a wonky landing on 3F at SA, so he lost some points here.

Just to point out - there was only one Japanese judge at NHK. Same as at GPF, actually.
