Michelle Should Have Won Bronze!!

Oooohh a pissed off Kwan. Run for cover. She might do another 3/2/. Maybe she'll try a Beilman? Nah, she can't do one of those, I forgot about her back problems. Of course Sasha could spend the summer teaching her how to put her leg upside her head and spin really fast. Or Kwan can convince Carolina to slow her skate down to Kwan like speed. Millie, you are right.

Watch out now tannis........someone might think you don't like Michelle........ 42

For me international competitions count - not nationals.

Unless you've been living under a rock or something, Michelle has won international events, 5 World titles and an Olympic silver and bronze medal as well as others so what's your point?

Some of ya'll are so catty. Enough of it already please. So Michelle made some mistakes, which I may add are quite unlike her. In all, she did a good job considering how she wasn't even competitive enough with the others.

History is history that may be but some of you forget so easily just how competive Kwan is. She'll learn from this I'm sure because only one thing matters and that is Turino. Go Michelle!

Well it's obvious the poster doesn't so I'm not taking anything that spews from his/her mouth seriously since he/she incessively keeps saying the same thing over and over.

Most decorated person in 6.0 history you mean. Few months ago or not, that last Nationals they were handing out the 6.0 's like a Kmart blue light special. Thank God for CoP.

6.0 or COP, it doesn't matter and nothing you or anyone else say will take away the facts of her accomplishments and her standing in history. How many other skaters, including in this worlds can claim to the same that she does? And by the way, Michelle is far from being part of the past because she's still in the game so continue to wallow in gloating over how she skated in this year's long but remember she'll be back because she has the goods. So crow while you can

Enough Already

Alright, enough already. Jeff Goldblum you are right about what happened. But it doesn't change what she must do to remain in the hunt for the OGM. She needs to plan, practice, pay a truly great choreogrpaher (Lori Nichols) and listen to her coach. The Grand Prix Series is a must if she has any chance at the gold in Torino. She has one year left and that's it. If I was her, I would skip touring this summer and just hit the ice in practices (if she isn't already under contract). She has enough money to do that. She has to knuckle down and do the work like Irina did or it's over. She also needs to lose the socks over the top of her skates. Those of us on this site who take delight in her rough Worlds may have a surprise coming next year.

By all accounts she has been working as hard as any of the other ladies. She just had not competed under the new scoring system. I don't get all of these accusations of Kwan being a slacker when she is known to be a hard worker. You need to consider all of the years that she has competed at top form without a break until she decided not to do the GP. A lot of the other ladies have taken time off for illness or injury. Not their choice but a break is a break. And since when are Dean and Morosova not considered top choreographers??? She has spent the last year trying to get ready for the CoP so how can you say she didn't take it seriously?

Kwan has been nothing but good for the sport of figure skating. At 2005 Worlds she had an uncharacteristic fall in the LP and a nightmare of a qualifying round. Cohen had an uncharacteristic LP without a fall . If Kwan had won the non Kwans would be bitching that she needed to retire so Irina or Sasha would have a chance for the title. Reality check Cohen STILL hasn't won a National or World title. Slutskaya has two Worlds to Kwans FIVE. When your girls come close to catching up with the Kween then maybe there will be something to discuss.

Lets see if she decides not to tour.... OMG Sasha might get a chance to be the headliner. If she does the GP she increases her chances for injury. An injured Kwan could mean..........I think we're on a roll here      :p ;) :)

Do you really think the tights over the boots had anything to do with the results?

The only successful hunt for olympic gold is if Kwan goes to Italy with a crossbow and starts shooting competetors.

Won't be needed. Sasha will slready have knocked them done in her rush to be the first on the ice for warm ups.

Good for Sasha. Maybe she can "accidentely" sideswipe Kwan in the warmups. She's already been accused of it. I say go for it Sash.

If they don't do well in nationals...they don't normally get to internationals. I would say they very much count.

Don't play.... This thread has been realitivly peaceful, let's leave it that way. If you can't add anything of value, don't comment on what you don't understand or don't care to think about... Don't drag Millie into your nonsense either, who is generally informative and always amusing. If you can't hit that target, there are other places where you'd fit right in... Otherwise let the grown ups talk.

Guy s, to me figure skating is like a game of chance or playing roulette. The skaters practice for years, some harder then others, then they go out onto the ice with a pair of boots and two little blades supporting them. They twirl around and jump around, they may have practiced the spins and the jumps and have them down pat. But, when they get on that ice with those blades, I think its a game of chance, the take off, how they spin while they are in the air, the position of their legs before they land, what's going through their head while they are in these
positions. A wrong move, a negative thought, all this has an effect on the game.
Some skaters are lucker than others, they go out play their game without a flaw, but then all of a sudden "Bango", some one comes out and ups the ante., Game over..

All these skaters go out there and skate. Some fans say they are skating for the love of it and passion. Yes for love of it and passion BUT the main reason is the MONEY. Its a job to them and their livelyhood. If they had to skate for free, I don't
think that you would see a skater on the ice

Congradulations to all the skaters, go home and practice hard all summer and probably next season you will be on top the game of chance.

P.S. Now that skating is almost over for the season, I would love to go to Las Vagas and put my bets where I can make some money, but I can't.

About chance, I think the unluckiest lady was Fumie. To me, the most enchanting program, in terms of choreography and presentation, was Fumie's SP. Frankly, I thought it was the only program of the whole competition (along with Jeff Buttle's long) where the choreography had anything to do with the character of the music. IMHO, everyone else was just skating and some music was playing.

Then she gave it all away by missing her combination.

In retrospect, I think Michelle used a better strategy last year in terms of music choices. In 2004 her SP (The Feeling Begins) was smoldering and sexy, while the LP (Tosca) was classically dramatic and featured changes of pace and style. That seemed to work well.

This year, IMHO, Bolero just droned on too long and the program seemed to be little more than a series of skating tricks. Except for the very first performance in the Marshall's event, she was never able to get the audience caught up in the mood she was trying to create.

Turino? Well, as Michelle says, "My life is already a perfect sundae. If anything else happens, it will be a perfect sundae with a cherry on top."

The perfect sundae is her bank account and the cherry on top is a few extra grand for her nest egg.

Michelle

Come on guys no one skated a perfect program in all 3 phases of the comp. Most of the programs were empty with falls, hands down, popping out of jumps and overall the same moves over and over. It looked liked generic skating. The tricks were the reward not quality skating and that is probably how it will go for awhile. Give Michelle a break she did pretty well overall. No response to silly posts.

During one of the interviews, Michelle said, I need to study, get the math down (Math don’t get excited here  ) and talk to a lot of people about new programs. Isn’t that kind of putting the cart before the horse? I guess what I don’t understand did she really think she could win without knowing anything about the COP? Isn’t that being a little arrogant??

Do you think she was using this Worlds to make a decision about the Olympics?

Don't take it to heart!!! Like Piel says to me "ARE YOU HER MOTHER". This only a bit of fun, no matter what we say o r do, is not going to make a difference in their lives. This is the only way we can relieve our thoughts on figure skating. Nobody means any harm or bad thoughts to these tallented young skaters. I for one would not or could not in my wildest dreams do what they do. I can't even stand up on a pair of skates let alone do a tripple flip, I would end up in ER in traction.     Laughter is the best medicine, its good for stress and tension.

I thought Carolina Kostner's skated good, but not very performing worthy. :)

You have to be joking. Carolina was superior not only in technique (3-3s) but artistry...absolutely floated like a fairy!

Why does everyone say that Michelle didn't know the rules for CoP? Do you think she just went out there and skated and hoped her tricks would rack up the points. Get real........She studied, she practiced, she skated. She went away without a medal, but she's not limping, nothing needs to be surgically repaired, and she's not under a doctor's care. She won her 9th Nationals and her immediate family is well and intact.......All in all, not a bad season........... 42
