^ An update: apparently it was 4lz two foot landing, 4T-3T, 3A
Aliev got 99 so Mika is in 2nd after the SP
Things getting really interesting for LP!
4Lz was also underrotated by quite a lot. The rest was good. Wrt the program, seems the opinion was split, but it's definitely still pretty raw. The image is the complete opposite of last year's. Aliev is not going to skate the LP, unfortunately (and neither is Fedichkina, so it must be Rukavicin's policy).

P.S. Misha looked tense, same as Stasya, although he had less of an obvious reason to be so. Maybe this being the first competition of the season...

That's good! Well its only August, it would be odd if everything was 100% and even at this stage Mika has a stable 4T-3T which will be very 'handy' in case of any issues with 4lz in a SP. A two quad SP is not going to be easy but if he gets it right by December it will be great. Go Mika!!!!
Compared to his form last year even in early October, that he pulled off those jumps is close to a miracle.

Ok, not a good FS for Misha it seems, but of the three different quads in the program the only one he landed was a quad sal of all things  But it sounds like after the first two quads he was too tired to skate the rest of the program. Although I suppose the quad sal part is encouraging.

Well, IMHO it is not a bad start at all considering it is only August - Mika attempted 5 quads in 2 programs (compared to 3 last season) it is a different level! Go Mika!
And I like his FS costume:

Yes, his form is way better than it was around this time (and even later) last season, but people have short memories.
People are now saying that he should drop the salchow which I find a bit odd. Let him land the quad lutz once and then we'll decide whether the salchow is unnecessary and should be discarded.

The 4S allows him to have 3 quads and still repeat 3A and 3Lz, which is a good thing for him (and pretty much covers for him missing the 3F). I'm surprised people think he should drop it, even if he had a hand down. If it was rotated and not a fall, that's a good early early season attempt IMO.

So far, he looks to be in way better shape than last season, strategy looks good for him, he has a different style for the SP, LP costume looks nice... I'm a happy fan :) stay healthy Mika and get that stamina! :cheer:

The idea is that devoting time to the quad sal is interfering with him getting the quad lutz down, but I am not sure that's where the problem lies.

All this stuff about jumps but nobody (who was there) bothered to write anything about the program, unlike with the SP. I suppose we can wait till the open test skates.

I am of opinion that they shouldn't have 'dropped' the sal last season- surely if he invested as much time in it as he did in a quad lutz, it would be very likely as consistent as his 4T by now. Don't get me wrong, I love his lutz - but alas his pure technique practically works against him - I fear this jump unless they alter the technique never will be very stable -hope I am in a wrong here...

I would like to wait and see how both of these quads go in competitions (maybe that's what they are planning too). If he can both jump and land 4S as early as August vis-a-vis all those pops last season, he should probably hang onto it for now, I don't really get the call for forgetting about it.

I just hope that they will settle on some layout and stick to it relatively early in the season (unlike last season) giving enough time to stabilise the content before the Nationals...

Finally the protocols from SPB Cup:

All his three quads in LP were rotated but 2 falls and mistakes on other elements - popped axel & loop and repeated 3lz. Still with the excellent 4T in the short it makes 4 rotated quads in competition (plus downgraded 4lz) - not bad at all for August...
Here is a short interview with Liza & Mika and a little bit of his LP(!) - love it :yahoo:

Misha's goal must have been to jump the quads and the rest was on the "whatever energy is left over" principle. He is obviously not at the point where he can skate an entire LP the way it's supposed to be. Yay for the rotated quads though.

People have figured out that the played LP music is this (not 100%):

Many thanks for posting - a great interview! A summary:

'- April -May a trip to a health resort mentioned before was in fact to Hungary (hence a photo in Budapest we were wondering about!) this was organised by Skating Federation of St Petersburg. Mika, Valentina & Stanislava received some treatments, drank water from mineral springs and generally had a good rest. So far (touch wood) back pain hasn't bothered Mika since.

- In May work on the programs. A notable event, Edea made a custom-made boots for Mika. The measures were taken in Ostrava at Euros and all was organised by Russian Fed. The result was great, never before a'breaking in process' was so smooth.

- In June Mika had a break during which he was doing his exams and then he & Olga went to Stefane for 2 weeks (earlier Mika said it was just one week - I don't know ?) The idea of this came from Mika& team but RusFed approved immediately and paid for it

- Music for new programs was chosen in April by Olga. Mozart for SP, medley for LP.

- In practice Mika jumps all three quads 4T, 4S & 4Lz, the most consistent is of course 4T but they work on the rest and hope to include two in SP and all three in LP'

What a great, positive interview! Looks like Mika has received lots of support from the Fed (and rightly so) and may this continue!
Now I have to say this I am not fit to work today - Mozart for SP, my very favourite composer and my favourite skater - that sent me into such ecstasy I can't stop smiling :yahoo::luv17::hap93:
