Mikhail Shaidorov

I'm really sorry to see Misha struggling this season. I imagine his successes last season brought more pressure. But there are achievements to celebrate, from winning at Denis Ten, to medalling at both GPs for the first time and going to the GPF under his own power instead of as an alternate.

Am I the only one who liked his SP this season better than Dune? I liked Dune, but now that it's back it looks toned down. I enjoyed the high energy and contemporary dance moves of his new SP. It looked like a big improvement in performance for him, both programs do, and I haven't heard commentators give him one bit of credit for it. I liked both of his SP costumes too. The first was conventional but looked good on him. The second was unusual, kind of feral, but I thought it was great. I also think his black FS costume looked great on him, very elegant and sci-fi (not always a combination that can be pulled off). I do not agree with commentators that he has watered down the choreography. I don't see it! Commentators usually don't mind if someone has little choreography if they skate in a classical style, even more so if they have good skating skills. That's my rant!
honestly i don't like either of his programs this year so i'm glad he went back to Dune, that program actually put him on the map and got him his big fat golds, also showed the world that he's not just a jumping bean. i don't know what happened to him this season, he's a lot less consistent, i'm afraid there's an injury somewhere, also the crazy scoring this season didn't help his confidence

What an historic win for Mikhail! I'm not sure who was more surprised, Misha himself or all of us!

I'm a big fan of Mikhail, so was super happy for him and Kazakhstan, this is only their second gold medal at the Winter Olympics since they started competiting as an independent nation.

Hooray for Misha, enjoy your gold!

It seems that Misha, the newly crowned OGM, is preparing to recreate at the gala finale this iconic pose by the former OGM he adores, can't wait to see it! :love2:

I don't know Mikhail Shaidorov's weight but I have a little guess that it's more than Yuzuru Hanyu's (about 53-55kg when he was competing, if I remember correctly, which is about the weight of a tall Ballerina), so, we may thank and admire the bearer!

More gifts coming in for Mikhail. A 3-bedroom apartment in his home-town, Almaty, from a construction company, and an Audi-8 car for his father from a local businessman who read in the press that his father had sold his car to fund Mikhail's training. Plus USD 250,000 prize money from the government

This is really great for someone who was really struggling to finance his training and had to cut expenses to the bare minimum!
I hope he gets proper sponsors and continuous funding for all his skating-related expenses!!!

Congratulations to Misha on his very well deserved Olympic gold medal! 🥇 🙌 It was his first Olympics and he was able to show two strong skates in both his SP and FS - what a success for him, for his coaching team and for his whole country! I'm especially happy for him because after his Worlds silver medal he struggled a bit in the past months, mainly with his free programs compared to last season, and I wasn't sure how good his form would be for the Olympics.Him & his team prepared very well for this competition. After all, Urmanov himself is an Olympic champion who knows exactly what to do to show the best form for such an big competition.

When I saw Misha for the first time around the time he won his junior Worlds medal, his jumps looked consistent and of good quality and was flying on the ice with them, similarly to his idol Yuzuru. I thought if he could stay consistent and develop he could have a really good senior career :) I'm looking forward to see him improve and how he will develop in the next years as well, perhaps we'll see new choreogaphies and styles from him as well. But now I'm wishing him to enjoy his Olympic success & have a good long rest after his first senior quad.
