Mirai Nagasu

I just skimmed through social media tagged with 4CC in Korea, and get an impression that Mirai really enjoys being there! She is so lovely. I hope she can peak her condition in competition, so that she can still be considered a contender for the podium!

She didn't do it in RT but who knows, I wish she would but I don't think she want to miss the podium.

Congrats to Mirai for passing 130 in the FS :yahoo:
Her jumps looked pretty good on rotation today too! She's making baby steps on expression too. You could really feel the emotions at the end. Her free makes up for the heartbreak that may result from the men's free tonight :']
I'm so ready to see her break 200 next season :hap10::hap10::hap10:

Hooray for Mirai! So happy to see her make the podium -- and she seemed really thrilled about it! And I love how Tom Z. just seemed so genuinely happy and proud of her.

They seem to be a good combination. I"m glad they've come together, it seems a positive relationship.

So thrilled for Mirai! Especially after she landed that final triple loop she turned it on and lit it up. I thought she got low balled on PCS but a las. I'll take the win.

What a great way for her to cap off the season and I totally agree about her and Tom Z. They make a strong duo.

Also wanted to note that as of this competition all of Mirai's personal bests (SP, LP, TCS, SP TES, SP PCS, LP TES, LP PCS) came from this season. She really is better than ever.

Yup, and if you take her two PBs from this season, she easily joins the 200+ club. She scored all positive GOEs on her elements from the judges in her FS and no UR or edge calls.

I want to see more of this Mirai next season. If she adds a stable 3A to the mix, she will be competitive with the top skaters.

Ecstatic for Mirai!!!! I hope she knows how proud her fans are of her. Keep up that fighting spirit and make the OG team next season!!!!

:agree:

BTW, her Four Continents FS is a free video on IN -- no subscription required.

The video quality is poor, but seems worth making note of the link here ... b/c of general rumblings that YT videos are getting blocked.

Re-watching made me cry :sad4: :yay: all over again. Congratulations to Mirai :ghug: :dance2:.

Happy for Mirai that she gets to visit NYC  again for a fundraiser on March 14.

Imagine that her trip will be short but sweet, b/c she still will be in training mode as first alternate for Worlds.

The first post is updated with Mirai's US Nationals and 4CCs results, with her season presumably over. Although as we saw last year, she wound up going to Worlds as first alternate....

It's nice as a fan to be able to update her PB data :)

Thanks to ice coverage, I've used the IN videos instead of the blocked YT links.

Thanks for updating the OP, apgold :yay:.

I don't want to jinx Mirai, but I have my fingers crossed that she will have a shot at going to WTT.
I think her chances for WTT will depend very much on how well Karen and Mariah do at Worlds -- and I do wish them only the best in Helsinki. #ThreeSlotsThreeSlotsThreeSlotsThreeSlots....

Mirai has been posting in her Instagram Stories a few details about her love life (shopping for date night, matching coffee mugs with their names on it) so I don't think it's an invasion of her privacy since she posts these things to her IG audience.

Mirai is dating Darian Weiss, 24, an ice dancer. Although is he is a Los Angeles (US) native, he's skating for Switzerland with his partner, Bailey Melton. According to this thread they competed at Swiss Nationals.

He's also an actor who appeared in a soap when he was a kid. He may also be a fellow student at the University of Colorado, from his tweets.

They seem very happy together and I'm happy for them. He's also quite easy on the eyes, too!

Hello! I'm not sure if this is fresh news but Mirai is thinking about keeping two programs for the next season.

http://web.canon.jp/event/skating/interview/2016_2017/nagasu.html (interview after 4CC, sorry for my rough translation)

I will probably keep the programs. I can't perform those in WC, but I feel we could make really two strong programs. They were a little difficult for me so I was not able to show all fascination in the programs this season. I don't want to leave these programs without performing with their full potential. I had a good skate in FS here, but I think I can do more. When you feel like that, you can't just leave them. Of course I will talk with my coach for making final decision, but at this point, I have been enjoying these programs and I want to keep them.

This was a very positive interview, she said finishing in 5th after SP might have been good since she had no pressure in FS. She also said she was satisfied with her performance and the result was ideal considering of next season.

I wouldn't mind. I like the SP.
The LP has potential to be better. It was so good towards the end at 4CC.
Might prefer a new LP, though...
