Mirai Nagasu

I'm over the moon that Mirai dropped that TWTIA FS. I just could not stand it because of it's negative connotations, and that it seemed to reflect the sadder aspects of Mirai's up and down career. I also disliked the version she used. No one will ever top ABBA imo!

I am STOKED that Jeffrey Buttle will be choreographing her FS!! He did an awesome job with her SP and I'm excited to see what he comes up with for Mirai's FS!

It's pretty Rockin' that she's practicing 3A-2T combos! Even if she never competes it, it's still pretty cool to see.

Mirai has been assigned to Rostelecom and NHK for next season. Unfortunately, both of her assignments are extremely stacked again :(

it will be tough but Mirai has competed against most of those ladies at her GP's before - including the likely Olympic champion next year. She shouldn't be intimidated by them. I say Mirai should take a deep breath, pull up her boot straps, train hard (and smart!) and fight for that spot on next year's U.S. Olympic team! :)

Agreed! Sometimes I think a tough field gives Mirai the fighting spirit to do her best. With that spectacular short and a new long, and hopefully a 3A, she may be a podium contender in both GPs. I jut hope she picks a LP where she feels the music and can give some expression to her skating. I'm rooting for you, Mirai!

I just hope her FS is as great as the SP. I just LOVE the SP! I was so happy to learn she was keeping it.

So do I! Something upbeat and strong! It's June - Didn't Mirai say that Jeff is going to work with her on her new FS this month? I can't wait!

Getting pumped for Mirai! :yahoo:

:agree: All of Mirai's dogs are very cute. And she always is super-cute with them.
Just one of many examples:

Lincoln was the first of Mirai's doggies in Colorado Springs, IIRC.

He later was joined by Liberty and then Lexi.

One of my all-time favorite photos of Mirai showed what I assume to be the play date with Cami and Diesel of the Knierim family (as mentioned in the USFS FB Live session).
(Mirai said she made doggie cupcakes for the gang, and a cupcake pan is on the counter. The photo is from March.)

Lexi is at the far right, and Liberty is to the left of Lincoln.

BTW, cool that Mirai had a mini-vacation in Belize and got her scuba certification.

Updated the first post with Mirai's FS music for the upcoming season - Miss Saigon choreographed by Jeff Buttle.

On an unrelated note, I had to laugh at Mirai's last Insta-story - she shaved her dog Lexie to stop her from shedding so much, did a not so great job and the dog looks very unhappy.

I remember how pitiful my dog looked after shaving. After about six weeks he looked terrific and was much happier without the hair. But he looked so miserable at first!

I want to here the musical cuts they use for Mirai. Mirai has great arms and extensions, which will go well with the score. Sticking with instrumental is best.

I just hope this music is something that Mirai feels and can express. I was hoping for more of an uplifting, snazzy piece like her Pirates of the Carribean where she really emoted expression and feeling. Hopefully, she had input into this selection and can relate and put her heart into Miss Saigon.

Updated the first post with Mirai's performances from Skate Detroit, including both versions of the new FS with and without the 3A. I think she's looking very strong for July and her stamina looks good for an 8 triple program. I'm liking the choreo that Jeff did, I hope they keep everything in.

I imagine she may be getting new costumes for at least Miss Saigon.

What's going on with her loop? Same issue twice? I thought that was one of her better jumps.

Loved Mirai's Miss Saigon! Artistically gorgeous choreography from Buttle (imo perfect for her) and Mirai also handled the technical aspect of the program very well.
She is looking very strong indeed!

Her 3As are still pretty shaky, but she landed them! Good start!

She looked uncomfortable with ina bauer > 3F-2T. She looked like she wasn't completely 'attacking' (borrowing Shoma's word) with her SP, but her FS is wonderful.

Look at that beautiful charlotte spiral. And I think it's--a pretty unique entry? A quick turn to a lutz, when most skaters would usually take time preparing, skating backward, mindful with the edge.

Looking forward for her to take her programs further!:luv17:

Mirai's Carmen program was so spunky and fun. I'm looking forward to seeing her skate again with that kind of joy, purity of line and musicality.
