Mirai Nagasu

I think Mirai can finally get into the US Olympic team after struggling to get in for many years. It was the cleanest triple axel I have ever seen and Mirai can now perform the most difficult jump with ease. I expect great things are going happen to her in this season.

Really happy for Mirai! Sure hope she can build on these good results and have a great season and make it to the Olympics! Enjoyed both of her programs, especially the "Sun and Moon" section of Miss Saigon. I swear, some day she could open a Beautiful Costumes store with all her gorgeous costumes. The red one was a stunner, and I hope it's the "for real" one.

Just adding to chorus of congratulating Mirai on her silver medal and ratified 3A from the US Classic :) Her reactions cracked me up indeed and continue to endear her to me and her fans.

I'm sorry she got hit with so many UR calls, some of which were questionable, IMO. I know she was expecting a much higher score than almost 120.

But it's still early in the season and she's ready to go. I love Karen and Mariah too, but Mirai proved she was the best US lady at this comp and hope she continues to show USFS that she is Olympic team worthy.

Looking forward to seeing her at the Japan Open in October :)

I was encouraged that despite being hammered by the technical panel, that Mirai's lp score was still ok (at least compared to what she has gotten in the past for so many unders..), and was enough to place second. It will be interesting to see how her and Karen do against such a tough field at the Japan Open! I am guessing they will place 5th and 6th, but hopefully they can just focus on a respectful showing in a fun environment. I disagreed with the 3-3 and 3S under calls, but I could see the rest. I like how she addressed them in the reaction video..."I don't want to hear what YOU have to say about them, I'm just going to go home and work on them, as expected". The panel in general seemed pretty tough on everyone, but I hope she is able to get some cleaner calls at her upcoming events.

I think that Mirai heads into next week's pre-Olympic media event with some nice momentum, based on the triple A, placing above Karen and Mariah, and Mirai's cute video/RuPaul shoutout. Now that she has landed a ratified Triple A (albeit, two footed), I think that she has the potential to land better ones at some of her other events.

Did anyone else catch Mirai's Instagram stories posting today of her doing a triple axel, triple toe, double toe combination?? That's what it looked like to me, but I haven't seen any comments yet, so I'm kind of beginning to wonder whether I just imagined it!

It was a double axel, triple toe double toe. It was huge and her smile just before was wonderful.

Ok, thanks much for the correction!:) Maybe wishful thinking on the triple (or just tired after work, lol), but it did look huge and confident!

Can anyone please explain to me why Tom Z. seems to be saying in this IN blog/article that Mirai hasn't yet landed a triple axel?

these sentences are toward the beginning of the article:
Could she land it in an international competition?
She hasn't yet, but if you were following Twitter, you might think she already has

And these are at the very end:
she noted she received full credit for both triple axel attempts.
"Just write about that," she told him.
And on that day when she lands it, I am sure all the reporters will!

The article, which has a dateline of Sept. 22, also begins by saying she hasn't landed it yet. I am flummoxed. Or is it just that it's too late at night and I should take a look at it tomorrow morning? Am I misunderstanding the article?

A jump is ratified, landed, or given full credit? Rotated? Or does it have to have a positive GOE to have it actually count as having been landed? That doesn't seem right.

I don't usually fixate on technical questions. But this seems to me just another incomprehensible aspect of the judging system that makes me lose patience, and drains popularity from figure skating. I'm far from a casual viewer, and this forum's posters have taught me a lot. So, thanks in advance.

Her 3A here was, unfortunately, double-footed, so it wasn't landed totally cleanly. I think Tom is waiting for her to land a flawless 3A, as we all know she can accomplish based on the countless practice videos haha

thank you. You know, I knew it was double-footed, I could see that even without slo-mo help when I first saw it. I guess my 2 a.m. brain forgot.

But I am still highly irritated. To me, this fixation on "was it 3/4 rotated, double-footed, landed, ratified, full credit, GOE'"... it just makes figure skating obscure and less enjoyable to so many of the general viewing public, as well as to many of us fans who are well educated in the many aspects of the sport other than the purely technical.

Bah humbug. :disagree: :curse:

Well, to Mirai and Tom, it's another (final!) step on the road to full .... whatever. So, as I said before, good for her.:yes2:

Hurry and check out Mirai's 'Tano 3Lutz on her story on Instagram before it disappears if you haven't already! Looks pretty darn good along with her 3Axel attempts (especially the last one!) and other triple jumps during practice.

Looks like perhaps Mirai might want to join the arm overhead club!

Best of luck to Mirai at the Japan Open this upcoming weekend!

I also liked that Dave and Jonathan from TSL had some nice things to say about Mirai's jumps and think she is bringing some excitement to US ladies with her 3A and renewed drive and not just being a "sentimental favorite."

Very nice job from Mirai at the Japan Open!

Two-footed 3A but all 8 jumps rotated! Needs to keep that up, get that 3A clean, work on getting those spin levels back up and on PCS scores overall - they're really what keep holding her score down even without UR's! I hope Mirai works a bit more with Jeff to improve her transitions and performance quality! Boost those up and she'd be right up there!
