Nathan Chen

“Nathan told me, ‘If you want to leave right away, it’s OK, I will take care of myself’” Arutunian said.

😂😂😂 I love the way Nathan treated this happening is nothing to him but, for me, I can get a sense of how the guy who works as an ISU event coordinator is rude to Raf. And probably that's why Raf wanted to apologize to Raf and Nathan.

Ah, I see. Guess I'd still like to know who writes these intros. Better not be the skaters themselves. I remember Nathan introducing himself one time at a charity type event as someone who has competed at the Olympics and at World competitions. I was just like..."Okay, buddy."
I’m guessing someone wrote a script with more details for each skater and the announcer picked the first part and cut it short. She picked up the part about Alena Kostornaia’s coaching change for her which made me believe the person wrote a lot for each skater.

Hmm. Wonder if he'll actually stick to that. I'm guessing it might depend on how everyone else is doing?
I think it is only for this competition. It is not easy to change the whole layout without bothering the trajectory that he has already practiced for a whole summer. That's why he changed Lo and S position because both of them are edge jump so the entrance is pretty similar.
It sounds easy...but it is easy only for Nathan haha. Changing the jump layout in a week is a very tricky thing to accomplish.

Ted talked about Raf and Nathan in first group warmup
"We are sorry for Nathan in that situation and I know that Rafael was not intentional at all but rules are the rules and they had to not allow Rafael to coach today. Sad moment and we hope the very best for Nathan as well."

Yep. Nathan is known for changing his program layout at the last second so I was just wondering if he was going to actually stick to it for the competition. Looks like he did.

Anyway, I hope he has built up some confidence now that he's had two competitions under this belt. I know the program layouts this time were "watered down" compared to last week's, but I'm still so proud of him for being solid. He broke 300! Nice work, Nathan!!!

Press conference happening now:

Hilarious: Chen: I was also at World Team Trophy without him, and I had my sub coach Jean-Luc (!!) with me. Raf's point when I skate is to hold my jacket for me anyway

Nathan did say he watered his program down in part because he’s dealing with a hip thing.

Per Rocker Skating, Chen: Reducing the elements happened because I didn't really have much time from Skate America, and I'm dealing with a hip thing. Hopefully I can make GPF - I'll be tracking the GP and hoping for the best with that

He’s got 5 weeks to rest and practice now.

Oh no... a hip thing could mean "I'm having a bit of pain because I do a million quads" but my fear is that he's affecting his hip that required surgery back in 2015-16, which is obviously a major issue. Hopefully it's something small, but it's definitely a bit concerning.
