Nathan Chen

The “hip thing” must be the reason some of his movement in the short and long seemed a bit restricted. Hopefully, he can work through it (but get a little rest and rehab first). Of course, I’m a bit worried about it, but he has some time to recuperate.

The program itself was excellent for this time of year. There were some flaws, but considering everything, well done. It must be a relief for him to have it over and get back to his training base.

I think that it might explain why he didn’t do a challenger. But I also don’t think it’s a huge deal yet, he was able to do 6 quads between two programs this week and he did quite a few last week.

He would have watered it down more if it was really bad—I think/hope.

Great Free! I think the 3Lz and 3Lo are preserved for quads later in the season. He doesn't need 6 quads to win this one. One should peak later (better at the Olympics)
I hope the "hip thing" is not big deal ...

He has a month before GPF, so he can get some rest and take care of his body... Which is great. If it was big, he would not be mentioned until the Olympics ( like the last Olympic season national.) Therefore, I am not very worried about the "hip thing", but I hope he gets some good rest. It was a really tough 2 weeks for him.

I feel if Nathan truly wants the 4Lo, then he should do it -- on condition that it won't damage his health (or won't damage much ... I hope. It doesn't sound like a relaxation to do any quad anyway). In sports sometimes it's now or never.
I hope he gets what he desires for. We don't know if he is over-training or has everything under control. If the first -- then yeah, wrap him in bubble wrap please:)))

My guess is that the hip issue is a chronic condition aggravated by the back-to-back scheduling, and that hopefully the time off will get him back in shape.

Gala schedule is up. Nathan skates 2nd to last and has an encore. Any guesses as to the encore? I think he'll do the Mozart chsq.

I saw Nathan kind of grab his hip when he was skating off the ice after his program. I thought he did a great job but still didn't exude the confidence he's had in the past. That small-framed body of his takes a beating landing those quads. I hope he's okay. Laughed at the only thing Raf does for him is hold his jacket!

SP from CBC, with commentary from Kurt. Has short interview at end where he talks about the music choice and whether or not he keeps it.

Always good to hear Kurt’s commentary as he doesn’t just focus on the jumps. Nathan was asked great questions in the interview. Interesting that he stated that he wasn’t sure if he’d keep the music or not. I think he was talking about the Nemesis portion. Does anyone have a different interpretation?

He was definitely talking about Nemesis. It seems he really likes "Eternity" so he'll be keeping that. IMO, if he's going to keep "Eternity" then he should just keep Nemesis too since it's the best part of the SP. I just wish there was some way to add some kind of a transition that would better bridge the two pieces of music. At the end of the day, if he keeps it exactly as is, I'll live. After two competitions, I'm kind of getting used to it 😆

Hmm looks like Nathan thinking about switching the last part of SP or not (Nemesis). I remember that he had an interview in the 16-17 season with Japanese magazine, he mentioned that reusing the program is a great plan B. If he chooses to change another Benjamin Clementine song for the end, I think it would be great to see. Anyway, Let's wait for what Nathan will bring to GPF! I like Nemesis so much, but I think reusing the program usually doesn't have much impact on to audience. (maybe that's why Nathan thinking about changing or not?)
