Nathan Chen

So proud of Nathan for slaying! I was supposed to go watch him live in Nashville and had to cancel my trip at the last minute due to the person I was going with getting sick with covid. I then had to test myself, and luckily I was negative, but I didn't have results back in time and didn't want to go all alone anyway. Not gonna lie, I cried ☹

Was going to be my first time at a skating competition....and if Nathan doesn't continue to skate after this year, it means I might have missed my only chance.

So sorry you couldn’t go. Health comes first. Covid has changed everything but one thing I learned from this is to do the things you value when you could. It’s totally possible that Nathan’s perspective of retiring may change after the Olympics. Also there will be SOI shows which are fun to see.

Thank you. Really appreciate your kind words. Totally agree health comes first and I would never be able to live with myself if I unknowingly had covid and got anyone else sick. SOI is a little different from a competition but I'll have to look into it. At least I won't have to hop on a plane for that.

I’m delighted for Nathan! He, more than anyone else, has the pressure on him, so it’s good to seem him do so well. Could the landings on a couple of jumps been better? Yes, but he can work on those when he returns home. Can we just mention how daring it was to put the 4Lz-3T in the second half of the short program? I don’t think anyone has done that before. Also, highest SP base value ever. It’s a lovely program, too. Not too many people complaining about his costume for once (for the record, I liked it). Best of luck to Nathan tomorrow!

I love Rocketman, but my absolute favorite has to be last year’s free program. I was hoping that if he chose to repeat, it would be the Philip Glass free!

Nathan looked the best here compared to the rest of the season in confidence and performance. I also love Rocketman, so it was great to see it again. However, I am worried about this hip thing. His quads did look the tiniest bit off throughout the competition, especially the 4F and 4S in the free and the 4Lz in the short. Hopefully I'm just imagining things. I am curious to see what programs he will use at the Olympics. I guess we'll just keep guessing until the first day of practice?

I looked away for two seconds after all the jumps were over, heard a gasp from Tara, and saw Nathan flat on his face in the middle of the ChSq. Like, WTH happened? Gonna have to rewatch that.
