Nathan Chen

I've been traveling all day and finally have some time to express my thoughts. Not his best performance today but seems like he's ailing a bit physically. I wish he would let himself play it "safe" and skate an easier layout if he's not 100%. I almost feel like it's better for him to be in school because it forces him to reduce his training load.

Lucky you, would appreciate your account from watching him live (including practice, runthroughs etc.)

I rewatched his FS, and with sheetz's perspective in mind, I noticed that he was moving a lot more gingerly, especially at the end of the program. Why does he seem to always hurt himself during Olympic season?? I guess too much time to practice and perfect things....

Congratulations Nathan on the 6th title! Am I the only one who prefers the neon yellow shirt to this straight-up Rocketman shirt?
Anyway the most important thing now is to heal the injuries, protect himself from catching Covid and decide on the programs/layout for the Olympics.

I personally like that one too so I'd be okay with either. I think this one is tailored a little more closely to fit his body though, If I'm not mistaken. Also, in terms of concept, this one, I feel, is easier to understand. Of course, we still have the usual group of people questioning the meaning of the shirt. The stars, obvious galaxy-like print, along with the music choice all flew right over their little heads.

Anyway, I'm laughing so hard at Raf brushing off Nathan's fall during the ChSq. Poor guy, like I did, turned away for a sec during what was supposedly a safe part of the performance...and something not so safe happened. 🤣

The new one does seem to fit better. The main reason I prefer the yellow one is that the fabric along with that color combo looks more unique and expensive while the new one I could find similar styles in a regular sports clothing shop. Maybe this is the kind of vibe Nathan wants to give out? It does seem to receive less criticism than the previous ones (though I think the ironic mistake helped shift some of the attention).

Lol...not sure that it's receiving less criticism, but it's always that same group of people who can never seem to be happy with anything Nathan does so I don't really care. The "wonderful" guys at TSL said that it's offensive to anyone with eyes. Typical 🙂

But, sure, I understand what you mean too. Nathan's shirts don't bother me at all the way it seems to bother some...but then again, I'm not necessarily a lover of everything that's traditional about this sport. I appreciate innovation, diversity, and skaters trying to set themselves apart from others by being a little more unique. It's clear that Nathan sees himself as an athlete , first and foremost, and he's a minimalist who likes clean fabrications and fabric that he can comfortably perform in. If he wants to express and showcase those sides of himself then all the more power to him. I don't know why some have such a hard time understanding his concept. Maybe it's not about understanding but more about accepting...since this kind of concept isn't conventional. The word 'athlete' might be frightening to some.

I’ve kinda become more worried about Nathan’s psychological state going into the Olympics. It was honestly a relief seeing him smile at the end of the FS.

The media pressure, and the pressure on himself really did a number on him in 2018. I hope he feels better, but I’m pretty worried about how he’ll do.

I’m mostly scared about his layout especially the sp and I felt he was not in his best shape physically. Pressure wise I think he has a lot more experience dealing with it than in 2018 so I hope it’s more controllable now.

Yeah that’s a good point. Guess I’m just anxious in general about how he’ll do at the Olympics.
