Nathan Chen

Boyang did quads pretty good at practice. He just didn't run through LP enough times before that competition. He said he would do 5 quads +2 3A in this season according the interview after that competition. support nathan to do 5 or 6 quads.

My friend watched JO, So I heard about what he practiced in 6min warm up. He struggled with 4lo and 3A, never practiced 4lz.

They listed this as Nathan's planned layout:

4Lo
3Lz
3F-3T
3A
4T-2T-2Lo
4T-3T
4S

Did he just throw in a yolo 4Lz because he missed the 4Lo? It sounds like he never intended to jump 4Lz or 4F since I saw no reports of him jumping those in warmup. In light of that I don't how seriously we should be taking these results.

:palmf: If this is in fact true, that means he's learned nothing from the olympics... why on earth would he throw in a 4Lz if it wasn't planned and he didn't prepare it in practice??

Seriously, if I didn't like his skating style so much, I'd gladly switch to another skater as my fave, someone with a reasonable approach towards his jump layout and his current capabilities and someone who actually cares for the integrity of a program.
I hope Raf gives him an earful after that showing.

ETA: At least the 3A was there, so that's one positive thing. Although I do mourn the spread eagle that was left out...

Nathan must have learned something from the JO although it's a fluff competition.

Hope to see Nathan is fully committed to the choreography of his programs at Skate America.:pray::pray:

The recent discussion reminded me of this CBC commentary from Nathan’s FS at GPF 2016:
https://youtu.be/kmJ4nU5XltI?t=4m0s

‘It’s very easy to get sucked into changing things because people think you should or because of what other people are doing. He’s marching to his own tune, and I think that’s absolutely great.’

Yesterday they broadcasted the JO complete version which included skater interviews. I didn't catch it and I don't know if it was recorded. This fan blog caught some screen caps of Nathan's interview.
https://ameblo.jp/babemama2015/entry-12411316768.html

According to the subtitles he says, "The season has just begun and I want to continue improving. The Olympic season is over but my attitude hasn't changed. Every season there are new challenges. This wasn't a very good start but I want to regain my skating."

Thanks sheetz for the link. There were similar problems with the subtitles not fully capturing what he said during last year’s JO. Luckily we have our dependable aboutNathan recording the interview.

Like I mentioned before, there are a fare number of Nathan fans who try to have the "Nathan Experience" in Tokyo. This blog entry details a visit by fans to Teamlab Planets and Happy Pancake in Shibuya.
https://ameblo.jp/babemama2015/entry-12411539212.html

At the pancake restaurant they asked an employee if that was the restaurant Nathan visited. The employee answered yes, and pointed out the location where he sat. The fans also asked how many were in his group and they were told he came by himself. Finally, they asked the employee if they were ever questioned about Nathan and they replied yes, sometimes.
