He cherishes the friends he has made and the deep conversations he has had with fellow high achievers — but also those with students who have challenged his long-held assumptions. Chen, whose childhood was as carefully choreographed as one of his skating programs, said, “I’ve learned that there is literally no right or wrong answer to what to do with your life.”

And Chen has found, in his study groups, a collaborative closeness that is hard to cultivate in a sport as individualized, and insular, as skating, where, as he said, “It’s not customary for other athletes to make sure you’re succeeding at the same rate.”

Chen zips around campus on a motorized skateboard, potentially sacrificing safety for sleep.

“I can get up at 9:15 and make it to my 9:30 class,” he said.

This kid is so insightful and he will likely to achieve his goals in life no matter what life throws at him...

After the nightmarish pressure and heartbreak that went into the Olympics, it's so nice to hear Nathan is now so calm and able to navigate adversity with sanginuity and grace. Plus, how lucky are the people who get to train alongside him at that community centre? :P With this mentality I'm positive he can win Worlds again. GO NATE!

The education really expands his perspective on life.

Good luck, Nathan!! 3/23 will be a big day in my life too and I hope to find out
you become a 2-time World Champion when I wake up in the morning.

If this is in fact the layout he's going for, then I am really happy about putting one of the combos in the first half. Because that 'backloading-all-the-combos strategy' was making me already so nervous at US Nats! And he only gains 0,42 by backloading another -3T, I'd say that's not worth the risk of not being able to add a -3T at all, because of a mistake on his second 4T. He can make up for those lost points in GOE or PCS, actually.

Did a SP runthru. Sort of messed up the 4T so didn't complete the combo but otherwise clean. Not sure if he did 3F or 4F.

3/18 practice rink report.
Nathan’s hairstyle looks great. He is not 100% in good condition but it is first practice in the morning and many skaters didn’t appear, so I think he is fine.

When first he appeared, he practiced FS stsq, so I wonder why he practices FS (because they told he will do SP run thru). However, after looking carefully at his jump practice, I noticed it was SP layout. Quad turned into triple, step-out the 4T, but he nailed really great 4T3T.And 3A now becomes a best friend!

At run thru, he nailed 3A again, and show very impetuous spin and 4T3T (Nathan was ambitious) lol
The Flip was not good during the practice , but he nailed it! ( I think he is really insane! ) However this time 4T3T didn’t work out. So he jumped 4T3T3T lol

Raf didn’t appear in this official practice. Where is he? And Rat also didn’t appear Mariah’s practice.

Nathan seems to be fine. And I also curious about Raf..🤔

At the U.S. Championships, Nathan Chen said he hoped to spend his spring break training with coach Rafael Arutuian as a tune-up leading to the Worlds.

Unfortunately, illness derailed his plans.

"I was pretty sick a week ago," the reigning World champ said. "I’m feeling a lot better than that but I still have a little bit of a residual cough. It doesn’t affect me on the ice so it’s fine."

Instead, he remained in Connecticut where he is a freshman at Yale University, citing concern for his fellow #TeamRaf members.

"I didn’t want to affect all other skaters [who train with Arutuian], like Mariah is competing, Michael’s competing, I didn’t want to affect them so I stayed in New Haven," he added.
