I'm so nervous about the changes in the SP. His quad Flip has not been perfect all season (negative GOE), why do it in a combo and risk the chance of missing the whole combo (=0 point). May be the back up plan would be to tack on the 3T after the 4Lz??? Too much risk - not a good choice IMO. I'm holding my breath now (even harder).

Yeah, I do find it an odd choice to make now when the SP has been so consistent all season. (I mean, he's had negative GOEs- but no major mistakes and I think a lot of that can be attributed to the muscle memory involved.) That said, outside of the run-through - the 4f/3t seemed very solid. I wonder if he's planning on doing the same combo in the long as well? Considering he didn't practice a 4lz/3t at all, I'm thinking that's the case. A friend of mine suggested that he's doing this to stabilize the 4f because it's been kind of wonky for him all season - but we'll see. I'll be interested to see how his next run-through goes.

I'm not gonna be convinced that the 4s is a good idea until he hits it in competition. Haha. That clip looks like the beginning of the FS - and he did a solo 4f (although he may have been planning a combo, looked like he had to swerve because someone was skating closeby.

Oh! I am SO not good with technique when it comes to jumps, I always am envious of those who can distinguish them. So we're doing a 4t in the opening now? We'll just have to see what the layout is.... Although he may have just been practicing random jumps too! :)

I think that's actually the second half of his program. I could be wrong though. Still wishing he didn't take out even more choreography.

That would make sense if he's gonna make the 4s the last quad, which I thought he should go back to doing anyway. Either way, the 4s should be moved - because it's a pattern of popping it now. I really think it should be just an optional quad if he hits the other four like last year - but what do I know! What time is practice today?

I can say with confidence that Nathan will defend his National title as it will be difficult for the other
men to match him not only technically but overall, he is that good. Wishing Nathan good luck!

Will we be seeing new costumes to go with Nathan's new hair at Nationals? :)

Seems Nathan really had a rough practice today. :( Wonder what changed in a day - not really sure what to expect tomorrow now!

Neither do I. His shirt is always strong, so I'm less concerned about that. But that FS is rattling him. I worry too many people are influencing that program and making it harder to relax and make it his own. I always said he and Lori would not make a good fit.

Nathan’s style and personality are completely different than a typical Lori skater. He’s balletic, but a strong type. He likes bold dramatic roles. This piece is softer and more nuanced. It makes it harder for him to connect with it.

But there was absolutely no problem with connection at US International Classic. In fact his first outing with that program was by far the best we’ve seen so far this season. And it’s not like Nathan hasn’t done exceptional lyrical programs before. The problem is with the lack of confindence due to the quads.

I think something's up with the 4lz. He attempted so many quads today and hardly did any 4lz's. Which is bizarre considering how that's been his only stable jump all season. I hope he can have a better outing tomorrow. :(

Yeah. He even missed his 3lz. I wonder if he hurt himself or something. If it's not better by tomorrow he should just water down his SP and do 4F and 4T.

Jackie did say the ice is different at SAP compared to the practice rink, and since Nathan was first up for his run through that may have been a contributing factor. Still, the lack of lutz attempts is concerning.
