Nathan Chen

It might look better from another angle, but this picture looks pretty generic. I loved that his curls gave him such a unique look and how it adds to the presentation. Even more special since not many Asian people have naturally curly hair like that.

Strangely enough the shorter hair makes him look younger and more like a teenage boy... usually it's the other way round...

The long curls suited his skating style and body movements so much better, with that untamed and supple look ;). They gave his whole appearance and performance a nice final touch.

 that hair....

I agree. I don’t think this new haircut is the best look for him. Hopefully the curls will grow back quickly!

I can't believe that commiserating over Nathan's new haircut has gotten me out of GS-lurk mode. As a naturally curly-haired person myself, I feel (unjustifiably) betrayed. He had an instantly recognizable profile, which is really just the hallmark of any good character design. Maybe the new costumes are just really overwhelming or need the new hairdo? AFAIK Clementine has some pretty cool cuts, and Mao's Last Dancer had very classic period (and societal) hair getups, so I don't really see how it fits thematically. And selfishly I really wanted to be able to view replays while admiring the physics of the curls.

I am going to senior Nationals and have been planning on giving little crocheted amigurumi dolls that I made of my faves and the junior skaters wearing one of my favorite costumes, so now I'm considering making it a point of keeping the curly-haired Nathan as is and including a note about character design. Too much?

Before the Olympics? :(

Historically Nathan's "Afro" style takes about 10 weeks, seeing the cut design, the hair could arrive approximately as in NKH 2016 or GPF2016 at the Olympics

I think the new haircut looks good :agree: , it will give a special touch to him FS (I also liked him curly hair but the current haircut is great too)

I wish he would continue with the jumps he presented in the 2017 GPF, but hey, it's Nathan, he will hardly make a program similar to another, each of his programs is unique.
:hap10:

Tbh, when I first read about Nathan's taking a haircut, I was expecting kinda like him since he has the curls and all. And I do agree with the comments about loving how his curls bounced while he's skating especially on his SP.

Now that I saw the new cut...it looked ok, I guess? I don't know. :confused2:

But for now, I'm praying for him to skate his best (especially his FP) in the Nationals and...for those lovely locks grow back quickly.

On the other hand, here's a vid dedicating to his hair.

I'm kind of amused at the hair rage within the skating fandom. It's possible the new streamlined look may go better with the presumably more elaborate Vera Wang costumes, while the wild curls could go better with the simpler outfits he's been wearing so far.
