Nathan Chen

Heard a rumor that ISU is going to restrict how many times a same type of quad can be allowed in FS. For example, in the past, 4lz can be used twice, alone and in a combo. But in the future, it may be only used once, regardless alone or in a combo. Not sure if it is true or not. If true, currently only Nathan could maintain his five quad program. So proud of him!

that is a rule change may benefit Nathan. I also heard it from SLT.

I heard about that possible rule change as well. Wonder if and when Nathan would do the 5 different quad program ...?
What’s going on with his 4Lo anyway - is it something he can still do? I would imagine it’s a bit killer on his hip

I love Nathan's 4loop, my dream is a historical five different type quads program from one and only Nathan Boi.

Nathan is going to perfect his quads technique, all of them efforless. yes:yes: One little fan can dream:yahoo:

Among skaters loop jumps are known hip killers. I loved doing 3Loops but I now have bad hips from it (and other things in the sport). :(

Ok, just wanna clarify this :p
I meant relative to their height Nathan appears slimmer. Ashley seems to have an athletic looking body type, where her shoulders are rather broad and she doesn't have what I would consider a petite frame (just looking at the proportions of her ribcage and limbs, even though of course she's slim, just not super dainty). Nathan on the other hand doesn't exactly have a "typically masculine" V-shaped upper body, his shoulders are rather narrow.
Now of course they don't need a specific body type to be able to pull off an ice dance number ;) it's just that in this case, with the small difference in height between them, this is yet another factor that makes them look too close together in size, so that all the choreo moves where they're close together look somewhat awkward to me.

Never heard anything good from people doing loops too often. He needs to stay away from it. Protect that precious hip. :roll5:

Especially since Nathan's loop technique is different than Shoma and Yuzuru (the other 4loop jumpers). They seem to be more natural edge jumpers and carry with them more speed/momentum going into the 4loop than Nathan's technique. I have a feeling Nathan's technique is probably even worse on the hip since it relies more on torque.

yuzu's 4loop is more rely on torque, just my humble opinion, Nathan's 4loop is pretty standard (love his beautiful RBO take-off edge). I think Nathan could use a bit more entry speed in all his quad jump.

also, Vincent is trying quad-lo-4S. the other way to achieve 4--4.
but I love Shoma's 3A-4T so much, I would die for a 4-4 without half loop
you need lots of landing speed and flow like Shoma's 3A to pull-off a 4-4

I kr Karen can easily do a 1LZ-3T fully rotated -3T, but she always has problem(ur -3T) with 3LZ-3T

I think Vincent is a little crazy:biggrin:, he used even less time than Nathan to attempt 6 quads FS.. if we are worring about Nathan's healthy/injury, what about poor Vincent.

I don't see the value of a quad-1lo-quad under any potential scoring system. It makes more sense to go for something like 3lz-1lo-4s.

I think Vincent is trying to go too big - and idk if he wants to catch up with Nathan or he’s just super ambitious. It actually makes me quite nervous and he seemed quite injured at worlds FS.

Shoma does 3A-4T?

Shoma does that combo beautifully in practice, next season, this maybe his secret weapon, considering one less jumping pass, other guys are trying 4-4, he can just to 3A-4T

Bringing this back since these pics just came across my timeline. And I gotta agree with you and understand what you are saying.

Argh I can’t stand The Olympics Committee for putting out the video where Ashley is interviewed about Nathan and school, all’s good except they just have to add Hanyu in the beginning and end to generate more fan arguments, for what?! One has 8 seasons under his belt while Nathan just finished two and they are totally different skaters and personalities among all else, this was so unnecessary weak of IOC. No wonder it’s becoming less and less relevant. Pardon my rant.

Here’s a nice upload shared by the Korean fan for those who can’t access NBC.

Is Vincent’s solo 4S good? He is so ambitious which is admirable - but I really want him to stay healthy enough to make it Beijing 2022

It was his first quad, although like the others he's had a tendency to underrotate.

I agree that Vincent scares me more than Nathan does. Nathan hasn't had too many serious injuries since his surgery; I think just some ankle problems but he was able to work around them. I believe Vincent has had knee and back injuries just this past season.
