Nathan Chen

afaik, Nathan’s dad has his own biotech company and he got his MD in China - I thought he’s from somewhere near Guangdong but not totally sure

My mom told me Nathan is half southern Chinese from his dad’s side ?

Ya, his dad is from southern China. Guangxi Province.

In one of the interviews, Nathan said he prefers Yale over the two safe net schools in northern California because Yale is the most willing to collaborate with him to make this work. I assume the two safety schools are Stanford and Berkeley. I'm curious what kind of support Yale promised him. Ice time of the on campus rink which Sarah Huges didn't get to use? Flexible scheduling? Tuition waiver?? Why else would he choose Yale over Stanford? S is a short flight away from Raf. There are no direct flight between Yale and south Cal.

I am also curious. New Haven is a not a good place if he will be often travelling. It is about 2 hours from the airport to the town.

I guess we will find out (maybe) come fall.
Interesting how Nathan made no mention of colleges in socal

He is going to the bulldog day later this month between his SOI stops. Nathan, Yale, USFS, Raf will have a 4 way discussion to nail down the details. He didn't mention any of the schools in south Cal because they're not elite schools; Stanford and Berkeley are his safety schools:laugh:

I hope I could join the discussion hahaha.

sheesh Econ is not necessarily a ‘fluffy’ major - I’ve taken as high level math as some of my friends majoring in the supposedly non fluffy sciences

The major may be ‘easier’ for Nathan in that there isn’t that same type of lab requirement

i believe you. you seem like a smart person :)

depends on the school you go to. now that I think about it, maybe why Nathan didn't pick a large public uni like berkeley LOL
in my school, econ was fluffy as hell. heck, even finance, which is what I did, was fluffy as hell  or maybe it's just me :laugh::laugh:
speaking of which, his hair is super fluffy :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

idk - Nathan may end up working with a coach other than Raf.
I’m guessing they know more than they are willing to tell us.

He absolutely knows a lot more:-). I can't believe he just randomly decided to go there without knowing what he is getting into and comparing to the alternatives.

I don’t really think it’s as dramatic as attempting to get A+ at MIT and I’m honestly finding this condescension quite rude

I did not mean to look down at anyone, just a matter of a fact. Yale is not an easy place for pre-med. That's all. sigh.....

I apologize if you feel offended

It seems likely. Hopefully it's all settled in a way where everyone is happy and no toes are stepped on. I don't want coaching custody wars 2.0.

And he got to go home for a few days at least since the next shows aren't until the weekend. That's good.

I am very curious to see how Nathan plans to balance Yale and skating - and what arrangements Yale is willing to make with him. I'm assuming we'll know more sometime in May- as I'm sure Phil H. will wanna do a follow-up interview with Nathan re: his plans, (and the fact that Phil kept mentioning that Nathan had until May 1st to formally accept). I could see Nathan finding someone to work with in CT who would kind of be under the advisement of Raf or work in tandem with him. With the use of Facetime and Skype and that sort of thing, Raf doesn't necessarily need to be physically present for them to continue to work together. It really would be amazing if he was able to pull it off but we'll see how it goes.

I could not care less about Raf.
I just hope Nathan's figure skating can develop into the correct direction both technically, artistically and competitively. and get the resources and help he needs. These help could come from anyone who has the ability.

Was kinda disappointed in the Phil H. interview
It was later edited to remove some of the interesting content and replaced with generic sounding stuff from USFS and USOC
I want a more in-depth feature lol - more ESPN magazine again or even Vanity Fair (like those 10 pg articles) would be great haha

I assume he was told by Team Nathan to remove all the controversial topics.

Please no more accusations that some coach is clinging onto Nathan like a rocket ship haha

Haha, but it would be similar to the Marina/Raf dual coaching situation. Although that wasn't as successful as hoped, maybe at this juncture Nathan's jumps are secure enough that he could spend extended periods of time away from Raf without it hurting them.

(former)manager, chauffeur, artistic director and personal chef Mom, Raf, Yuki (who seems to function as manager and publicist afaik)
I really don’t know

here is Vincent's team
TomZ jump
Krall, transitions, levels, bullets
Kammy, artistry. over-all packaging
Drew, dance, movement.

and his agent is David

and Nathan' team. seems that is pretty much it
plus
artistry: Nathan

I really don’t know

I think he also made use of a ballet coach, physical therapist, possibly sports psychologist?

But between Mom, Raf, and Yuki I refuse to there have not already been lengthy discussions over Nathan's college selection. These people are clearly not stupid and they would not have sat idly by while Nathan made one of the most important decisions of his life.

It is different this time, Raf cannot come to CT and Nathan needs a coach, as long as they work out the co coach plan beforehand, I don't think Raf has that big a problem like what happened with Marina.
Yeah, I think the situation is not the same as it was with Marina. As far as I understand, Nathan went to Marina specifically for choreography, but it was never the plan (at least not discussed with or well communicated to Raf) to have Marina actually coach or co-coach him. As for getting a secondary coach near Yale -- if a formal arrangement/agreement is made and everything is communicated and understood by all sides, it would and should not be a repeat of the Nathan/Raf/Marina drama.
