Nathan Chen

A lot of Nathan fans are just kids - some as young as like 11 online

They can’t take Uber on their own lol

haha was thinking, a lot are probably in school and it's the middle of the work day as well for those older fans. something like this would be better on the weekend? and probably not in AR. Just saying. Not hating since I'm from Texas, but I wouldn't suggest a visit here either. :laugh2:

at least his hair is max shiny and fluffy.

Too much 2nd hand embarrassment for me to laugh too much. Can't even look directly at his fluffy hair.

since when? I never noticed before and I was just staring at some M&G pictures. he must have aged 5 years during this time away from his phone

He's had those white hairs for a few years now, I think this is not uncommon for dark-haired people, be it asian or latin. I've had a chinese colleague who also had quite a few of them already, even though he was still young.

I only started noticing his graying hair last season--so just after turning senior?

I just can't get over Kellogg's flying him from New England to Arkansas just to meet half a dozen fans at a Walmart in the middle of nowhere. If they wanted to generate interest they could have just given out free samples. LOL

he has a couple.
his hair is still excellent tho

i feel like someone higher up at one of the companies had a daughter or son or something who wanted to meet him. otherwise there's no logical reason why this is all happening
if they are trying to do this for PR there are 1500 different ways it could have been done better

I watched in HD and never really noticed. :slink: Guess I'm not too observant or am distracted by other things.

I am a long time lurker/sometimes poster in this fan fest, and I want to state that I'm a huge Nathan supporter. However IMO, super stalking him and looking at all his instagram likes and then POSTING them on the fan fest is a bit too extreme. Let the kid have some semblance of privacy. He may be a celebrity, but please remember he is just 18 and would probably not want every single thing he does scrutinized and then aired out for all his fans to see.

Honestly one of my funniest moments ever with my 5th grade ballet student

Student: Nathan chen went to my elementary school!

Me: you must mean Vincent - Vincent is from palo alto

Student: who’s Vincent?

Honestly most of the general population (and Walmart shoppers) don’t know who Nathan is - even not in Arkansas

Ouch on the Vincent story too funny and I’ll stop here.

A lil late to the what-the-walmart-and-AR party. Did the Kellogg’s AR office came up with this brilliant idea or who because it sure didn’t generate a buzz for Nathan or Kellogg’s. First, AR of all 50 states (no disrespect to)...unless AR is a robust FS place which I don’t recall. Then of all places - walmart, won’t add more as plenty have sounded off haha, did w gave Kellogg’s some incentives to be selected as the venue? Why not at one of its popular rinks, academic/after school type facility or sporting good store, and most of all, such a last minute event announcement through reporters Twitter, sigh. As if it couldn’t be more odd, he’s placed right by checkout stands with a plain old folding table and nothing more, oh he did get a autograph marker to do some work... well at least Tony is there... grrrrreat! Where to next haha can’t wait to laugh and cringe at the next stop if any.

Bridgestone, please don’t send him to a cave to sell tires. I trust your team is more market savvy 🙏🏼

Nathan I’m so happy you got paid for this and treat it as your summer teen job :)

I also thought at first the choreography is bad, but then I realize I was comparing to that of a Papadakis and Cizeron. If that’s possible...lol these skaters as good as they are they dont have the time to achieve that level of perfection in such a short time frame. JMHO

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.I like Papadakis and Cizeron too and wasn’t comparing to them or competitive level choreography, just as an entertainment piece it’s a boring one to me and the skaters actually made it much more interesting, it wasn’t perfection that was missing in this.

The nearly empty meet and greet at Walmart is hilarious (poor Nathan though!). There’s definitely some poor marketing here but (and don’t bash me for this comment) nathan needs to improve his fan engagement using social media if he wants to pull (or even retain) more sponsors. An Instagram story or tweet a day or two before the event and he will easily reach his 300k+ followers. Even with stars on ice, we need to rely on instastories from other skaters for our Nathan fix. And he’s one of the headliners! It’s probably not his obligation to post about his events but I’m sure if he does it will help with the publicity.

“酒香不怕巷子深” that is their marketing strategy...:palmf:

Which means "Good wine needs no bush. Genuine good-quality goods need no promotion to attract people, as good wine needs no marketing solicitation. "

And yes I am back (after 6 month off-ice rehap JK:biggrin:). Take it easy tho, only light stroking for now:yes:

I agree, though I don't think he's interested in doing it. You see how the Shibs and others are constantly out there promoting themselves (and SOI), but he doesn't really seem to bother with it. It's not really his personality either. Though he seems less active on social media then he used to be in the past. But I do disagree he needs to do so in order to gain sponsors. Results and achievements gain sponsors, not instagram posts.

Though a M&G in the middle of the day with a few hours notice would probably turn out pretty empty for most people.

wb yyyskate!
