Nathan Chen

I think Nathan has enough on his plate right now - fluently speak Mandarin too? I'm sure he could someday if he's really motivated ... but maybe he's not super with foreign languages? I don't know. But he said he doesn't understand any Russian - even though he's had Russian teachers for most of his life ... which I have as well and I can understand some Russian (if necessary).

I don’t mean right now lol. I mean eventually because it is part of his heritage and it’s always nice to be able to speak your home language. I know from experience that it can feel awkward not know your mother tongue when you’re a first generation American immigrant and you get around natives but you can’t fully communicate with them. Sometimes natives can get judge-mental about that too, where it’s like they feel you’re becoming too Americanized if you don’t speak the language. Not saying he’s experiencing this, just that it’s a common problem for 1st generation Americans. Being bilingual is very beneficial, he should take advantage of that in the future imo.

I wouldn’t think any of his Russian coaches spoke any Russian to him so I wouldn’t expect him to understand any.

wow, Nathan went for 2 quads tonight. And he did 1 quad at the Anaheim show. I guess I saw the in-between show with no quad attempts :)

About he might not be gifted in learning foreign languages - “He is mortal after all.” Terry Gunnan said it when Nathan made a small mistake at last year’s National after completing all these amazing quads.

Well we don’t really know, he might not be gifted, he also might just not be interested lol. It’s pretty easy to ignore languages you don’t speak and not pick up anything if you have no interest in doing so even while being exposed to it.

He already understands mandarin though so that’s half the battle. In that, he can become fluent if he wants. Idk about other languages.

That Ted guy was at another show before I think, pretty sure I’ve seen him another time taking pics with Adam or something. I think it was one of the east coast shows

He is mortal and flawed but we still love him. Haha They didn’t celebrate Ashley’s bday? Was looking forward to see more Nathan 😊

Nathan's costume!! Love that guy's reaction

wow, it looks quite regal and so much detail up close. Interesting that he told NY Times this season that he 'genuinely hates sequins' and that tunic has applique, brocade, gems, crystals, sheer sleeves, etc. His Vera 'uniforms' are a complete 180.

Yes, he's been at several shows. One of the others was LINY.

They did. They had cakes and candy for her. :)

Then where are the pics?? Someone share on instastory por favor :)

About gifts - In general, the Japanese fans have a habit of giving expensive gifts to whoever they idolize in any industry, Apple Watch is a small dosage compare to the LV bags, Gucci jewelry to Breitling watches, the list goes on. The Korean fans have since caught on in this Asian fan gift culture and due to the general younger fan base, they tend to collectively contribute. So it is reasonable for him to post his thanks, as a way to show his gratefulness and respect to them.

@hhh Thanks for sharing!😊 I wonder how many gifts he gets regularly, fans are pretty thoughtful about what to get him that I feel like between gifts and sponsorships, he probably rarely actually has to spend his own money 😂

I hope one day he’s able to fluently speak mandarin. He already understands most of it so it won’t be too difficult to get down the speaking if he really wants to. It’d be a huge benefit for him in the future, take advantage Nathan.

Haha it sounds like he has been doing tripples for years with the right techniques...now get down to quad.

Breitling watches? wow

Supposedly a Korean actor even received a Jaguar (the car, not the animal lol) as a fan gift before

I am not sure Nathan would make use of a gift like a LV bag ;)
