Nathan Chen

but I think Yana is a regular fan, maybe turned into a friend of Liza or doing some volunteer media job at RC recently. But she is still extremely lucky to be able to go to Nathan's hotel room to have fun with them or shoot videos etc. One in a million luckiness, Really the goals for fan page owners.
Going to the hotel room of skaters is not common at all, extremely rare situation. I know many Chinese fans will wait in the official hotels or even airport to meet their fav skaters/idols (it seems is a normal thing in China or Asia). I always wonder how do they gather all those info of skaters. Crazy for sure . But star skaters like Nathan's status in US, it is nearly impossible to meet him(except the official arranged M&G ) in competitions, let alone go to his hotel room(strictly forbidden, fans are not allowed to approach skaters in official hotels).
But it maybe another situation in a foreign country. like Nathan in Russia.
The rare situation(fans been invited to skater's hotel room) I mentioned before, is all about when a skater(not US skater) compete in a foreign country and meet some supportive fans from their own country. they may have some interaction together.

Looks like the 4S could be his 1st or 3rd jumping pass in the long...
I wonder if maybe he's going for a 4 quad LP and has decided that he's not doing 4Lz and 4F in one program because it's too risky right now, so he's splitting those two jumps between SP and LP?
Hence the return of the 4S in the long, because it's supposedly less taxing?
I hope that's the strategy. Also my biggest hope is for him to finally realize that it's a much better route to focus on improving the quality/GOEs of his jumps rather than adding more and more BV. Especially now with the +/-5 system, it's so much easier for others to rack up gigantic GOEs on their well done elements that more than make up for the relatively easier technical content they have. Focusing on GOEs instead of adding more quads is not only more efficient scoring-wise, better for his own development, but also decreases chances of injuries. People already know he can do all these different quads, now it's time to prove that he can integrate them seamlessly into his programs.

Also yay for the return of that BO rocker during transitional footwork in his SP!
Hopefully he doesn't leave it out again during comp, because I love rockers and this one in particular adds so much to the overall aesthetic of his Caravan program.
Can you point to me the rocker step you are referring to?

And wow, another beautiful not-wonky-looking 3A during Caravan... looks as nice as the one from SA.
I wonder if it's the entry with the 3turn that helps him to get in a better position, before stepping onto the FO edge for the axel?
Or maybe that was just another fluke ;).
Hopefully not! It is indeed looking so much better. He looks like he actually has some lift in the 3A takeoff whereas so often in the past his 3A looks more like a waxel :p

^^ people have mentioned that Yana was there because she's a friend of Elizaveta's, and she was helping with interview recording. I hope she can come here and tell us a little more about the story.:luv17:

Yeah, but I'm also kinda worried that he might go for a 5 quad LP with a 4S, 4Lz, 4F, 3A, 4T, 4T, 3Lz layout... :noshake:

I think it's interesting that with the new rules, yes, the penalty for botched elements is much higher (especially when said element is a quad), but also, when you're getting positive GOE on a high-scoring element such as a quad, it can level out the negative impact of another quad or 3A that has gone wrong, because the reward is also much higher than it was before... this is something that was particularly noticeable with Shoma's last outings.

And that's why skaters with more or less stable quads that they can do consistently in competition, still have quite the incentive to do them.

And even though Nathan's quads aren't always perfect, there's usually one or two that are pretty well executed, and earn him quite decent GOE and could potentially make up for 1-2 bad jumps. So if he's going for quantity, it'll really depend on the ratio of badly vs. well executed quads...

He's also done the same combination of a BO rocker into FO mohawk in his StSq in last season's LP:

I love how the execution is different in each program, depending on the style and aesthetics of the choreo. Like in Caravan, it looks like he's going to fall over backwards, expecially when he's playing it up and acting a bit, the way he did during CoI, and it fits so well into the whole idea of the program. That's why such details matter and transitions are important imo, and he shouldn't leave those out the way he did during SA.

Nathan gets better and better looking after haircut. Magical!

Seriously magical haircut :luv17:

He looks quite a bit different now than at Skate America. Now for the important question - is he going to be wearing that vest and tie-dye shirt again at IdF :p
