Nathan Chen

Yes, the major shows are usually broadcast on TV and I don't expect it to be any different for these shows.

I can't believe you remembered the interview because I completely forgot about it! You're right it's scheduled to be broadcast late night on 4/17. Hopefully someone will record it.

probably the only time that'll ever happen, me remembering something you've forgotten, lol.

did anyone read this article? Is there anything new? it's not just another re-translation of the NY Times? photos and article are credited to Hirono Aoshima. the 'free' registration period confuses me.

Once again, thank you, sheetz :)

A sweet and poignant moment during the Adult Nationals in SLC. Spending a few precious minutes with @nathanwchen in the rink where he and I started his skating journey together. We were both flooded with joy and incredible memories of his beginnings as my student. I’m forever his biggest fan and I’m so proud of the stellar human and champion he has grown to be!

Thanks for the reminder! I’m in Japan - looking forward to seeing Nathan on late night TV:luv17::luv17:

Passed by the Keio Plaza Hotel yesterday (think that’s where the skaters stayed at Worlds) which was kind of exciting:)

I read an excerpt that didn't have anything new. But I haven't seen the full article which requires a credit card for the trial subscription.
Thank you, sheetz. Now I understand.

Please tell us all about it if you catch the late night broadcast. Could this be the artists whose music has been chosen for the group number Nathan is choreographing for team Raf skaters at 'the ice'?

It would be great if they could let us hear Nathan's voice and use subtitles, instead of dubbing out his voice with a Japanese speaker like the Saturday Plus Ramen episode.

yes it was.

Article: Yalie and world champion Chen finds time for Stars on Ice

"It will be a challenge because of exams and other things, but most of the shows are East Coast- based and I can travel to school and back to the show," he says. "Yeah, I am taking a gap for finals, but ultimately (the grind) is not too much of a concern.

"It's really nice that we have so many top skaters in Stars on Ice, so I am not part of the cast this year based on my schedules. It would definitely impact the cast if they had to take me out of some (routines). It's a better idea to do my numbers separately. Besides, with all they have accomplished, they are a great cast."

Rough translation of interview:

The interviewers says they are nervous, then Nathan enters and they congratulate him.

Q1: What do you think about during your performances?
A1: Every performance is different. Until last year I was focused on the technical parts and was therefore not always able to put out good performances. This year I'm more conscious of enjoying myself and the result is that I was able to put out better performances.

Q2: How do you juggle both skating and school?
A2: I don't waste a second. Even when I'm eating or traveling I use that time to study. I also prioritize; the period before exams is important so I concentrate on studying and don't think about skating. As for skating practice I decide in advance what needs to be accomplished so I'm able to have high density practices.

Q3: How do you prepare mentally?
A3: It's important to practice up till the point where everything comes naturally. When I perform I'm out on the ice by myself but it's important that the practices are a collaborative effort by my team.

Then they ask Nathan to watch a video of their performance. He says it's really cool and gives it 10/10. He likes some of their choreography and maybe he'll use them in his own programs.

sheetz, thank you so much! also very grateful to aboutNathan0505 for the clips!

Too bad a lot of Nathan's words got dubbed out, but I'm still thankful to have this interview. I noticed they let us hear Nathan's voice without dubbing it over when he's talking about putting their work on social media?

Hearing Nathan talk about time management was a strange mix of enlightening and stress-inducing, lol. It's sweet of him to be so genuinely excited and admiring of these artists' choreography. He got excited and made all those gestures. So cute!

Now that they've officially given him permission, I'm already picturing Romain, Mariah and Marin doing moves from their music videos. But maybe it's Nathan himself in his (solo) self-choreographed gala? ^_^

Yeah, you an use a VPN to watch it on youtube at least. I used one and downloaded it since it's impossible to watch otherwise. Thanks NBC. :sarcasm:

Thanks to aboutNathan for sharing as always - and sheetz for translating!

Love the figure skating magazines in Japan - so many beautiful photos of Nathan:luv17::luv17: They are kind of expensive (though very high quality) - I spent over $40 on three of them, though easily could have purchased more!

Thanks for the reminder about WTT videos being deleted, will have to save them now.
