Nathan Chen

But also: Nathan, get that butt down low enough in your sit positions and remember to count for god's sake, those lost levels on your spins don't befit a 5 time national champion! That's like IJS 101 for any skater who grew up competing under that judging system!

I think besides all sorts of pressure mentioned above, skating to cardboard audience for the second round didn’t help.

Yeah, I mentioned that Shae wore it for her Denis Ten tribute program.

I miss Raf grabbing Nathan's arm the moment he comes off the ice and immediately starting to analyse the program, and sitting with him in the KnC and whispering secretively into his ear, he's always cracking me up. :frown:

Did you notice how Nathan searched for/checked the tracings of his landings on the ice when he was leaving the ice after his program? He did the same at Skate America.

I must be the only who really liked the costume lmao 😂 thought it had this artsy minimalist flair that worked really well with the program. And I think it really enhanced his lines and adds more flow to his skating which really helps with this program (I’ve also been waiting forever for a costume that doesn’t swallow his neck). It’s much closer to what I would envision for this program than the generic blue blouse from SA - now THAT’s from a
middle age woman’s wardrobe.

I liked the costume too

Congrats Nathan! Nothing short of speechless me at all of it.

Honestly one of the things that impresses me the most is the way he talks about skating, competition, life etc. He's just so mature, well reflected and I'm in awe.

In the last couple of months I've been binge watching most of Nathan's old programs and I find them so very entertaining! The jumps are great of course, but I just love the way he moves in general. He's got this crazy body control. Having done Ballet for quite a while myself, I found his movements so beautiful, his current FS actually makes me cry
Congratulations on your discovery of Nathan's unique beauty! I remember going through that phase myself and it was very thrilling haha. The way he turns out his legs, extends his knees, points his toes, and trains his eyes on the direction of his hand (for better projection) speaks to his ballet training and never ceases to charm me.

I feel this program keeps getting better as an exhibition number! He's paying more attention to all the little accents in the slow section of the music, and the movements in the choreographic sequence are more clear-cut.

I rather like Nathan's performance of his FS at Nationals. Even though he was reasonably distracted by his monstrous tech and not 100% with the music, the quiet, subdued beauty of the step sequence still shone through. While I hate the second version of the music cut, when he landed those big jumps on the beats towards the end it was rather exciting. I'm not the biggest fan of the new costume - thought the black mesh looked cheap - but the fact that it would move with him is a major improvement over the past approximately two seasons worth of costumes. (and the fact that it's women's clothing makes him look softer to my great delight)

Sometimes I need to check myself whether I am too biased on my awe of Nathan, but for some reason, I just do not find the feedback and commentary of Dave Lease and Jonathan Beyer to be all that objective of Nathan. Perhaps this was already discussed in this forum or in others, but has anyone found their criticism of Nathan to be objective? Alternatively, are there other skating recap channels on Youtube you find to be more objective?

TSL doesn't like Nathan and never has. They don't like anything he does and downplay everything while constantly saying other people can beat him. And no, they aren't objective or interested in that. They have their favorites and everything else is just drama for them. They said Alysa should not go to nationals so she wouldn't embarrass herself and it was too late for her to ever fix anything (at the old age of 15), basically calling her a lost cause, and we all saw how well she did.
