New game - Places in the title!

South Street ("Where do all the hippies meet?" - A street in Philadelphia where Saturday night "cruising" was very popular) - don't remember who recorded this song

Google is my friend. The Orlons recorded South Street.

What with the hurricane in New Orleans, I'm thinking of this song:

Louisiana 1927 by Randy Newman

The chorus "Six feet of water in the streets of Evangeline" I have also heard this recored as "Six feet of water in the streets of Plaquemines"

Evangeline, as well as being a poem, is a parish in Louisiana, as is Plaquemines.

Thanks, Doris. That song is a little before my time (before I really started listening to rock & roll - that came with the Beatles & the British invasion). I got to know the song in retrospect.

Speaking of Hurricane Katrina, didn't the Goo Goo Dolls write the song "Better Days" in remembrance of that, or did it kind of become a remembrance of those horrific days shortly thereafter?
