For a looong time the Russians have not gotten as few medals as they seem to get from 2006 Worlds. This moment it looks very likely indeed that Petrova & Tikhonov´s bronze medal might remain as the only medal for Russians from this competition. It feels very odd indeed, as during the years one has accustomed to see Russian skaters on the podium or at the top of the podium in many disciplines.

The situation is though understandable in different disciplines, as the best Russian skaters are not participating and in some cases "new" names are appearing. It might take maybe a couple or even more years for the Russians again to have podium material in their skaters. I´m especially looking forward to the younger Russian male skaters, such as Uspenski, Dobrin and Voronin maybe becoming a success and to show that Russians again have skaters like Urmanov, Kulik, Yagudin and Plushenko.

Competitionswise these 2006 Worlds look really exciting as there are so many skaters competing about the places 1-3 without "sure winners". To me it does not need to be a winner from a specific country, LOL, I´m happy if the medalists seem to be the best skaters in their event.

I agree - what a total troll. Its also worthwhile noting that worlds after Olympics are always the worlds for seeing new skaters since usually the skaters who win gold (and some of the the other medalists) either reitre from elligible competition or skip worlds so the fields are not as deep as they have been for the whole of the season leading up to worlds.

The Russians I see as having the most potential and who I am most looking forward to seeing is Uspenski, Voronov, Biktagirova, Kropotina. But I do not expect big things from them.

That's right....sorry about my English.
I just thought its interesting that once FS dominating nation cannot produce a single gold medalist this time. Their top pair P/T is no match for Chinese pairs as shown in Torino. I expect Irina to be retired this year since she has no chance winning a title in 2010 once she passes her 30. The world has also caught up in dance category. I wonder how many more years Russia can rely on Evgeni bringing back the medals. Even though he still has another shot at Olympics medal in Vancouver, once he is away from world championship, Russia could risk themselve in deminishing their enrollment to men's FS event to only one entry next year. It is certainly looking like that on women's side without Irina.
