I seem to recall from the time of the first Notte Stellata that Yuzuru himself said in an interview that as he was working with the "staff" on the cast, one of them suggested that it would be nice and fresh to have someone completely "outside the box", not from the usual "show cast" list in Japan, and doing something a bit different. As let's be honest, there is this list of skaters invited to Japanese shows, it may vary slightly from one to the next, but the names mostly repeat between various shows. So he recalled having seen Violetta in Canada, whether it was in a live show he might have attended, or someone (Shae Lynn Bourne, maybe?) showed her performance to him online, or he just found it by chance while browsing the internet, I don't know / don't remember. But it seems that it was far out enough for him to remember her
Further on, I seem to recall from that time that Violetta herself revealed how positively shocked, surprised and thrilled she was to receive an invitation from him to his show in Japan. She could not believe it at first as she said they had never met and she was surprised he even knew her name as she was never a competition skater. I remember her fangirling completely, like "I could never even dream I would ever share the same ice with Yuzuru Hanyu". Just watching her joy was melting my heart....
Now, there were many ways in which Shae Lynn could have been instrumental in this but I do not remember if any of them has ever brought her up in this context. I imagine Yuzu might have had a vague memory of someone he saw briefly years earlier in Canada and asked Shae Lynn for helping him out with details... or maybe she was the one who introduced Violetta to him originally...
