OBAMA's huge victory

 yeah, well, you should have seen me last night  a little more gloomy than this afternoon

while I didn't vote for him, I will still be proud to be an American, and I'll pray for him as well as stand behind him
Isn't that what the German people did in 1932? They made a mistake not unlike the American majority that believed Bush with his weapons of mass destruction which he knew well never existed. Horrible to say, but you can fool all the people some of the time. and think of the innocent people that have died for that lie?

I will not believe Obama to be a liar. He will do his best with assistance by the best heads in the US Govenment.

I'm honestly not too impressed with what the world thinks about any of our elected leaders. *shrugs*

Joe - last I checked Bush did not wipe out (or attempt to) an entire group of people. Last time I checked neither has Obama. That being said I still stand behind Obama - if you don't want me to, then why'd we just vote him in? I'm honestly confused. Am I not allowed to support the elected leader because I didn't vote for him. Isn't that a very narrowminded way of handling it?

I'm not calling Obama anymore a liar than I call any other politician. They all make promises they can't keep, and we buy into it or we don't. I won't agree with every policy he introduces or signs into being, but I will still support the new president until he proves himself to be something less than that. I don't care what side of the great divide you're on when it comes down to it.

As for the people that followed Hitler or allowed him - I have to imagine those that didn't agree with him didn't support him, but feared the consequences. Those that did stand up to him were dealt with. Simple history. *shrugs* As I said. I will voice my opinion when I disagree. As is still my right.

Last I checked Bush will be out of office on or around Jan. 20. Obama is already working with him for the transition according to media reports. What's that site that people have been throwing in my face lately... MoveOn.org???? Shouldn't we move on and look to the future instead of belly ache about the last 8 years?

Of course I'm not comparison the current Messiah to Hitler here.

It does seem that reading for comprehension isn't your forte, but uh, yes you have. Since you are the one who first brought Hitler into this discussion, in reference to the large overwhelming vote for Obama, and have since referenced Hitler several times since. What the hell else are you doing if not comparing the situations?

He can be worse than Hitler, or better, or he can be an almost 'normal' politican, who the heck knows for the time being? What I want to emphasize here is not about Obama, but about voters. If Obama was Hitler incarnation, he wouldn't go this far without the approval of the mass.

I personally would put more blame on the mass who voted for Hitler instead of Hitler himself. That's why I think it's very important but perhaps unrealistic to separate those voters who are reponsible from those who are not. I advocate punishing those voters who have brought disasterous 'leaders' heavily.:clap: Death penalty for those Germans who enthusiastically supported Hitler in the first place!

My ideal solution is this: if Obama proves to be the one who will destroy America in four years, how about sending those who supported him on this board to prison and confiscate their wealth under a new law when the new leader is ushered in?

Joe, will you volunteer to serve in prison for your vote if Obama destroys America in four years?

Take responsibility!:love: I'm just kidding.

My whole point is that it's so frustrating that the electorate will get the collective punishment for a 'wrong' choice even when maybe only barely 50+% supported a candidate, and the other half opposed. We have to come up with a smart way to force individual voter to bear their own responsibility and face the consequences as well.

The passion and enthusiasm in both parties sort of surprised me. It's like a cultural shock as I have barely seen such political enthusiuasm in my country. I have been like "Wow; what is that?" But sure, if baseball and soccer can excite us so much, why not politics? Yet, I've never considered any politician as a hero so that I still found this sentiment rather interesting, even though I am aware that this campaign might have been pretty special even in the US history.
In any case, I am a bit worried that it would be very hard for anyone to live up to such high expectations for changes.

Hitler was also 'elected' by the enthusiastic mass. Stock market is down almost 300 points now to celebrate the victory of our Messiah. I'm wondering why his devout followers haven't jumped in the market yet since the earth will soon be healed?

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

I'm pretty sure it's an unwritten rule of the internet that as soon as Hitler or the Nazis are brought into any debate the deabte is over!

Of course I'm not comparison the current Messiah to Hitler here. I am just saying in a democratic society, voters need to bear responsibility for their votes. Unfortunately, there's no accountability, no punishment for voters' irrational actions whatsoever. The average sheep only go with flow, that's why we keep on electing these lousy and sometimes dangerous politicians.

Assuming, therefore, that you are one of the voters for the current Bush administration that has caused the current economic problems - are you going to turn yourself in to serve your time and hand over your 100% tax now then? If we're being, you know, democratic about it all

Fiercemao:
Oh, yes, we certainly want to condemn to death those voters who make bad choices. This "lady or the tiger" approach will certainly encourage even more people to exercise their political freedoms and vote. After we've scared away all the voters, then we'll just have military coups every few months to decide who will run the country. Great idea. Hint: this is sarcasm.

Medusa:
Thank you for injecting some common sense into the discussion. It appears to be severely lacking here.

Congratulations President Obama!!!

As I'm sure everyone can guess I'm really happy. Especially after what happened with Kerry four years ago.
Finally, hope is here. The road will be hard, but I know if we all work together, with Obama as the leader, we can take America back.
Barack, I want you to know how proud I am of you, and I love you very much, and I'll be supporting you every step of the way.

I AM concerned about Obama's win. Partly becuase of my pro life feelings and his opposition to the Born Alive Act in Illinois which makes me really upset.. Even Hillary supported that bill...

I'm also concerned because while I realize he's very smart. I think a lot of people voted for him on his charisma and smartness... He has very little record to run on. I'm upset that the voters choose Obama over Hillary who (was clearly much more well spoken on the issues and experienced)

The fact that he has so much charisma, the media fell soo much in love with him, and little record has me nervous..

BUT I think it's wrong to compare him to Hitler because Hitler was pretty clear in his writings that he wanted to wipe out the Jews. Hitler didn't lie his plans were clear, it's just some didn't want to believe him. Given this the Germans bare far more responsibility than the Americans who voted for Bush (although not the second time) or the Americans who voted for Obama.

This whole thing though does make me question democracy because it seems in general charisma wins over competence. Obama's a smart man but really hasn't run anything and has little experience and we are in such tough times....

Things like Civilian security force does make me nervous though.
Still he's my President and I'll support him and pray for him.. until he actually does something I disagree with (although I'll always pray for him) I'm willing to give the man a chance.

Your information is not complete. Therefore it is not correct. I don't blame you because this was the tone of McCain/Palin's campaign. Obama has explained it at least once. He opposed that bill because there were some amendments needed which have been fixed after Obama moved to US senate and left the lllinois state senate. That bill has passed after he left, so he didn't have chance to vote again. He is pro-choice, of course, but not as horrable as you think.

I don't understand why Hillary has more experience than Obama? A few years more in the senate doesn't make much difference.

The fact that he has so much charisma, the media fell soo much in love with him, ......

I agree with this. Many Americans and many people in other countries around the world fell in love with him. Just hope that he will continue to make the wave as a president which I think he will because now he is surrounded by the smartest people in US. I truly believe that he could accomplish something in his term as a president. Whether you like what he is going to accompish or not, is another thing.

The idea of wanting a leader "like one of us", so that people could relate, such as Sarah Palin, could only be suitable for kings and queens, or princes and princesses, not for the commander-in-chief.

Still he's my President and I'll support him and pray for him.. until he actually does something I disagree with (although I'll always pray for him) I'm willing to give the man a chance.

Good for you! I think to see the enthusiastic responses from the people in other countries around the world might give you some comfort that your country has done something right.:)

True. Maybe we should talk about the carnage in Somalia, and a few Central African States. We could be all year discussing crimes against a people.

Let's get on with Obama's win and how he will handle the mess that Bush left.

Nooo! Don't talk about the reaction from other countries - because at least the European countries are a bunch of liberal, decadent, elitist, atheistic, socialist ones and those people there should never dare to even think critically about the US or judge anything there, let alone write those thoughts down or say them aloud.

Right, small exaggeration. But some American friends really told me that I just should keep my mouth shut, when talking on the Internet, when talking to American students at my university... That's why I stopped arguing mid-September on these boards. People are just proud of their countries, and lots of people in the US, and not just the evangelical ones, are proud of being religious, of being conservative... So they don't care what other countries say, or pretend not to care - or get really defensive, even if they are actually quite moderate in their political and cultural beliefs.

how about 8 years already in the White House? you can't tell me she was just hosting tea parties and vaccuuming!
