Obituary: Nina Simone

I have never cultivated an appreciation for jazz. Simone seems to be a larger than life kind of singer/ civil right advocator/ musician. Anyone here familiar with her music. Any cd recommendation?

The Nina Simone CD that I have is called Compact Jazz (like a compilation of her songs), but any CD that has "Feeling Good", "Sinnerman", Everything must Change", and/or "My Baby Just Cares for Me" is a good Nina simone CD- then again, I'm not the biggest expert on jazz .

She didn't seem to be as popular as Billie Holiday or Ella Fitzgerald, but she is very authentic as far as her voice is concerned- kinda like the voice of an old soul .
